running problems

i cracked my sump on the weekend and only noticed when the oil light came on and almost a faint rattling noise i pulled over and turned the car off could i of done some serious damage ??? can any one throw some light on the subject cause im starting to panic big end bearing could be damaged ??

Don't sound good matey

No way to really know without an inspection of the shells. Whack a new sump on and fill with fresh oil, you may get lucky. Doesn't sound good that you heard rattling.
