Running slicks

Car  182 cup
Looking into getting track wheels and slicks for the cup and came across some 235/610/17 tires.

What size wheel width would I need for these?

And do you need a cage to run slicks on trackdays?

Cheers, Mike

That's not too bad then, at least wheel bearings are considerably cheaper to replace then driveshafts.

I honestly don't know why people would want to run slicks. IMO you are far better of with some semi slicks. They are cheap enough to buy new and they are easier to manage out on track.

I'd rather be replacing a driveshaft than a wheel bearing though! Driveshaft can be done in 15-20 mins, wheel bearings need a press etc...

But if you know someone with a press, it would make it a lot cheaper!

My dad does have a press so it makes it easier for me, but I've also got two spare pairs of driveshafts!

I've never used slicks though, have been offered a half worn set for £120 couple of times but I see no real need for them for Trackdays if not competing, road legal cut slicks are just as much fun and you can drive home with them on, unless you've been going very hard ;)

For those who have everything eh ;)

Very good point about the road legal one's, I've just got some Federal 595 RSR's which are a road legal track day tyre, at least I know I can fling it round the track in them and then drive home in them too.

how are the federals going? very tempted on these too

They're pretty good tbh, loads of grip in the dry.

And more grip then I expected in the wet, rather impressed.

Just need to get them on track now.

I wouldn't mind trying a set of them, saw them when ordering my r888's but they didn't look as mean as the R888's :)

they were on my shopping list anyway but now I'm even more convinced ;)
thx!
