Running two cars (insurance)

  Clio Trophy 079/500

Hi all,

Im going to be running two cars soon, just wanted to know how other people insure them. Just spoke to a broker and he said NCD will only apply to one car (or only one policy). Do peeps with two cars have two different policies or one policy with two cars on it?

Cheers in advance for any advice.

Yes, that is true.

2 cars will need to be insured seperately so you will have to start again with regards to your NCD i.e. two seperate policies IIRC.

I have insurance that allows me to drive any car, but that any car still has to have its own cover.

Insurance companies really do rip people off. ha. got to love em. Im thinking its cheap not to bother. Not that i would, but still i can see why people dont bother. The sad thing is the peeps who do take out insurance suffer for it.

Oh well, looks like ive got to start my NCD all over again. oh bugger.

there are some companies that will match your ncb on a second car, only trouble is I cant remember who, but this is 100% true!

Ive seen a post on here mentioning that. Hopefully the broker ive just spoken to will find me one of these companies.

The problem is, my pug is insured full comp, with 4yrs NCD. I get 5 at the end of november. So i dont really want to cancel that. My trophy arrives early next week so i need to have fully comp insurance for that. and i just know that ill get hammered if i try and insure it without any NCD.

I think worst comes to worse ill have to cancel pug insurance and wait another year for the NCD. bugger.

I ended up starting a new policy a few years ago when I got another car to use as a run about.

Some companies mirror your NCB so you can use it on two cars, I think HIC do this.

Some will insure both cars some how under the same policy if one is on limited mileage.

Some will do neither and say you need to start a new policy which I ended up doing.

The pug is a crapper, so i only really want third party on it, im going to be using that mainly for work, and the trophy after work.

I thought you could dirve any car third party if you were fully comp ?? or is that just for cars that are already insured by another driver ??

Yeah the car has to belong to and and be insured by someone else.

Your policy will say something to the efffect of any 3rd party on any other vehicle not in your name with the owners permission.
