What machine will be using ?

A PC as in a Porter Cable or a rotary type machine.

In the right hands you will get it mark free - depending on the defects.

Quick wash down of the door before i started (to the bump strip). The right side of the door (full of swirls lol) was how the car looked clean, with many coats of super resin polish. A 10 min play with the pc on the left side is obvious!!!!!

Some pics of it finished

Oh thought you ment only pc'd to the doorstrip. And you'd cleaned the entire door.

TBH honest if you take your time, prep the surface well, mask everything off and check your work as you go along you will be fine.

The hardest thing I found when I started was avoiding flicking polish everywhere! Pleased to say I have mastered this problem now!

Oh, and another little tip, if you are using a pad for the first time, spray it with a little bit of QD, just gets the process going smoother as it reduces the friction, before the pad soaks in the polish.

I have no idea? Whats the best machine to use for a novice like myself?

Porter Cable is very easy to use, and well weighted, so most people start with that. Rotarys are more powerfull so can do more corrective work, but in the wrong hands can cause damage, and in untrained hands can leave marks in the paint which looks worse than swirls.

The UDM is a new competitor for the PC, not used one but some people say its not as good as the PC, some say its better, but probably roughly the same. Meguiars are bringing out their own machine fairly soon, and in a UK specification so need to buy a cumbersome and expensive transformer, like you would have to if you bought a PC or UDM, as they use American voltages.

Black is the best and worst colour to do imo!

Process is no different to any other colour imo. But if you don't do a good job them your wasting your time.

Does anyone on here offer there services for a few ££'s

I know im gonna get it wrong

Trust me - I'm the Lord of Fecking Things Up when it comes to cleaning cars - my own black gold included!

My own limited knowledge and complete newbie approach to it, left horrendous marks in my bonnet. Scarily bad ones - I'm sure you'll be able to dig up a few pictures on this forum of my mistakes!

But I stuck with it and bought a PC. Mithered Rich with various questions and bought my kit off Shaun (182_blue on here). I was really, really nervous at first - like it was going to feck right up from the start, but it turned out alright. Not 100% perfect, but certainly 90% of the way there.

It's still a learning process and you find that you are always improving on your last effort. The two key things that I can pass on in my limited experience is time - you'll need a fair amount of it and also patience. A quick sweep back and forth will do nothing to your swirls or marks.

Best thing to do is pick a good, clear day (not too sunny though!) - get a drink out and stick an iPod on. Combine all that while you're PC'ing and it actually makes it quite enjoyable! ;)

A couple of pics from the thread I did the other week....
