Scary Handling...

  Revo Stage 1 Leon FR
Driven my car for the first time in the wet today, and it just slides around corners, the back end constantly kicks out, even at slow speeds !!!

It has on 4 "event" tires, which i have never heard of, so i'm assuming they're budget, as they're brand new, they came on the car when I bought it.

I really hope the tires are crap, otherwise there's something seriously wrong!

Your input as to what tires I should get (if this is the problem) is much appreciated !

Thanks :)

the tires that are on have a "W" speed rating which seems a bit OTT ?

event wl905 are the tires on at the moment, in the set they spin if you put your foot down (not even too heavy) on a corner, put your foot down, back end is straight out :\

I have some fortuna tyres on mine on the front, when it rains they are truely awful, people don't believe how bad they are till i show them, have to drive so so slowly in the wet. Can make them wheelspin in 4th at 80 on the motorway.

Sounds like my old 1.6 with F1s on the front and Avons on the rear, used to be able to drift every roundabout in the wet if you went any quicker than about 15 mph. Rather dangerous tbh. I'd change them for something else asap as it'll end in tears believe me.

All comes down to personal preference really, I love Goodyear Eagle F1s the wet grip they give is amazing and there bloody unreal in the dry especially when its warm. And a local place selling them for £51 a corner in 195/45/16 so not too pricey either.

Cheers for your help guys, I used to have toyo proxes on my VTS, used to love them until it rained, lol!

Eagle F1's i've heard alot about, and my friend has the dunlop 3000's on his astra and says theyre the best tires he's ever had !

even at slow speeds ? hmmm maybe silly but are the tires put on, running in the right direction ?

Had an experience once with a motorcycle, changed the tires and didnt get the running direction right. Drove a couple of meters and it went from underneath me when cornering !!

My 182 has exaltos on the rear and uniroyal rainsports on the front (on the car when I got it) and it handles pretty well in all conditions.

I've had toyo proxes in the past and they were quite a good all rounder but wear down VERY quickly!!

i second that...when i got my 1st set of alloys on my 106 i put the alloys on the wrong way with the direction facing backwards rather than forwards...went to garage next day for mot and they pointed out the tyres were facing wrong way n explained its very dangeous in the wet as the water has no where to go so makes the car effectivly aquaplain

I had the same problem with I had the standard P6000's on my old ZS, they where truely awful around round abouts in the wet.

I have Eagle F1s on the front, and Dunlop SP Sport 9000s on the rear - the softer compound of the Dunlop keeps the rear end stuck to the ground (it understeers before it ever oversteers!)
I originally had Dunlops front and rear, but I got through the front set in 8,000 mile! Rears still have plenty of fat to them though.

i have the same problem i drove my dynamique for the first time and thought i would try to find the limits so i pushed them on a roundabout and the back slides right out but it came back with no drama

my 172 came with PE2's on it, changed the fronts for eagle F1s and they are better in the wet and about the same if not only slightly better in the dry

went thru 3 front sets of eagle F1s on my 1.2 in a year, loved them

I'd get them changed tbh, sod driving a car which wants to misbehave at any given opportunity (or as suggested check that they are on the right way round)

Eagle f1's are very good I rate them.
