Scenic RX4 F4R Engine





The RX4 that I owe has the F4R. Is it the same engine as the Clio 172?



In the RX4 the engine has 140 HP and is a bit low on Torque at low revs.



I am thinking how to add more power, please suggest on the best path to choose.

Leigh - would be a good idea to suggest why you feel its such a bad engine.

I am intrigued to know.
 


I think it most at least use a lot of components as it wouldnt be cost effective for renault to design completely new engines. Id ask your dealer if you are that serious about changing parts to make it a bit of a q car..

Sorry I miss read the original post !! I thought u was gonna transplant a rx4 engine into a 172.:oops:

I feel that its just a engine thats set up wrongly. The torque is in the wrong places. Just my own opinion, thats all.

Didnt mean to upset anyone !! :sleep:

The RX4 is not widely spread and I am sure the dealer will not be able to help.

I need someone that can guide me were to start and which parts to look at.
 


Theres always a mechanic whos been at your renault garage for years who knows everything about anything, i guarantee it!

I remember seeing a site which explained renaults engines, i cant remember it though..try typing the name of the engine in to google or something.
 


its the same basic castings and internals......

but teh 172 has had lots of detailing to it to make the power it does.......not the same, but not entirely diff.....you COULD whop a 172 head on there if you wanted. etc etc

Besides the head, what about air intake and exhaust. After such minor modifications will reprogramming the chip will help?
 


if you did swap the head over, it would need more than a light remap......

It would make sense to fit the 172 ancliliaries such as exahust, inlet manifold, injection system and pssibly the ecu....but you might as well swap over the engine....ti would be eaiser, then you could swap the loom in too.

BUT, you could run it off a new management system such as lumenition, emerald M3D, DTA etc.....this would allow you more freedom and ge the system perfect. But then getting a MK1 head with M! throttle would be easier as its not FBW, and you would not need to mess about with the throttle arrangement.

Make no mistake, this is not a minor mod.....its a huge one!
 


AFAIK, some of the differences between the F4R in the 172 and the RX4 include different compression ratio, cams and different pistons. ECUs would inevatibely be different too.
 


yup, all that and a diff head, crank, fly, inj system, VVt....well awhole load....but fitting a 172 motor in wouldnt be too hard.
