Porsche Boxster987S
Well, where to start !? My involvment in the trip began when i read Ali's Facebook status outlining the trips plans and intentions. Ive wanted to go for years and years and thought it would be a great time to go knowing ali and a few others knew what it was about. Quickly the ferry was booked and the hotel also. Myself and my mate (ScottF) finally decided on taking his MK4 R32 over my MK5 R32 for a few different reasons , and before long the 21st September came around and it was time to make our way up to South Queensferry early on a Friday morning to meet Stoddie and the other boys travelling down from Aberdeen. The line up of cars / people was as follows :-
- MK4 R32 (Myself and Scott)
- Lotus Exige S2 (Stoddie)
- Lotus Evora (Justin)
- Clio V6 (Ali)
- BMW Z4M (Daryl and Andreas)
- BMW M3 (Laurence and Michael)
- Porsche GT3 (Simon - meeting us at the hotel in Germany)
- Nissan GTR (Craig and Jim - meeting us at Newcastle ferry port)
Heres a few pics from the pre Newcastle drive at South Queensferry
After a quick meeting and greeting it was time to head towards newcastle . We planned to be there for 2pm although the ferry left at 5.30pm. This was i think due to Ali needing to get the wheel alignment on the car done at a nearby garage ..... (last minute ali eh ) . Mid afternoon friday and we aboard the ferry with ali happier with the car !
After a ''pretty'' smooth 16 hour trip across to Amsterdam we were ALL glad to get onto dry land ! A few of us didnt really know what to expect on the boat but with a few night time beers and a walk around the ship a few of the sea legs were steady eventually ! We pulled in at the ferry port in Amsterdam to fuel up before the 3 hour trip into south Germany. (I took these on Scotts camera)
And after an EXPENSIVE re-fuel it was Ring bound ! ( Hanging out the passenger seat with a camera )
The trip south went QUICKLY (lol) and after what felt like an hour we arrived at the Hotel ! What an incredible feeling seeing those signs for Nurburgring as you descend the mountain roads into Adenau! Will never forget it , and those little mountain tunnels full of some crazy but epic noises !!!
After checking in with eddie it was time to pick the keys to the room and unpack (hi frizz) This was the view from our apartment. Immediately , the noise of the supercars lapping the track 50feet could be heard. Sureal feeling !!! Goosebumps at the noises but the fear of what the ring could be like settled in LOL!
After settling in we wasted no time in heading up to the track. The camera stayed in the bag at this point as we would be doing only 1 lap and wanted to just get a feel for place and our surroundings! Theres not really any words to describe the magic of it all! Its a fantastic place with a fantastic atmosphere and buzz. A millionares playground full of people there for the same reason. The noise of ferrari followed by lambo followed by astons and superbikes could be heard for miles in the trees. Our first lap Scott drove with sweaty palms. So very different from the xbox. Constantly looking in mirrors and watching supercars you have only ever seen on topgear gear changing at 100+ in your passenger window!! Safe and sound from our first lap it was back to the hotel for the camera and a walk around to see the ''talent'' !
Day 2 was all about getting up to the track , soaking it all up and of course - laps. Myself and scott bought a further 5 laps and with each lap we grew in confidence. Nerve racking when it wasnt my car but nonetheless - AWESOME. The r32 was superrb fun on track! Done the job nicely without being abused! However , having meeting craig in the GTR , myself and scotts trip hit an all time high when Craig offered us a passenger lap in the animal. I personally love speed and the buzz it gives but nothing prepared me for the lap. The GTR was incredible on every single level. Savage acceleration , spine bursting brakes and scary scary handling abbility. On my passenger lap Craig really did go for it , passing bikes , 458 italias , ring taxis etc. After around 8mins we were back at the barrier and when i got out the car i was a bit ill and shaken. The car totally took me by surprising and pull Gs in corners at the ring was a bit much after a breakfast. An outstandingmachine that out paced a large majority of the cars at the weekend. A massive thanks to Craig for the lap and everything we discussed on the trip. One of the nicest and most helpful guys ive met and a real plus from the experience.
Once the laps had been used and a quick bite to eat at the hotel me and Scott headed back up to the track with the camera to see why the track had been temporarily closed ....... I'll let these pics explain ......
WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great way to head to dinner and i sure as hell slept well on the saturday night ! Sunday was an early start and myself , scott , stoddie , justin , laurence and michael were at the track early for more laps before lunch then it was camera time. Heres a bunch of pics from around the track. Enjoy if youve read this far !
A thoroughly epic trip with some epic people. A big thanks to Ali for his guidance and organisation of the trip. The Nurburgring is a place any car lover should go at least once in there life. This was my first trip of a new anual event . Thanks for reading and i hope all who went are happy with the pics.
