Re: SDV RIP
Howdy folks,
Well the new owner was me
Sorry i havent been able to show my face for fear of persecution for being in charge of this fine fine car when it came to an end. The car itself was a credit to Neils (ph-reebone) hard work and dedication. And as such was possibly the best car i have ever owned bar none. For that neil i thank you.
What Happened?
I picked the car off a very proud owner on a friday afternoon, and had what can be described as a truly momentous drive home. It was stunning to drive. Gear box was tight, engine was smooth, and the driving position the cobras gave you only heightend this.
I drove it anywhere i could on the saturday, and decided on a trip to weymouth with my girlfreind down some great A roads. Which the car only asked for more!
Then on the sunday it happened after but hours ownership. I drove to blandford to get a new iso harness for my stereo. and fitted that to the car as well as carpeting the rear of the stripped out car!
Then at 10:35pm my best freind phoned me from the pub, drunk as a skunk, and asked if i could pick him up and stay at mine for the night. i grudgingly got out of bed to go pick up my drunken fool of a freind.
What i night the weather was to be honest terrible! But i drove through the wind and the rain! got to the pub, went in and had a coke while he had a glass of water as i didnt want him chucking up in my new car!
Got in the car and drove home, the roads were aweful, twigs leaves all sorts of debris cluttered all over the place, i was 300 meters from home, 12:03am, my drunken fool of a freind had put on the tune from the film top gun:- kenny loggins: highway to the dangerzone, how true the name of that song was, then it happened.
A 200 year old oak tree, fell at the precise moment we passed under it.
It hit the front of the car, which was doing 45mph, and proceeded to crush the pillers the windscreen the roof and me!
My head , i recall it breaking the glass of the sunroof and cutting my head badly. My hand was broken as i was holding the wheel of the car and three of my ribs broken.
My freind has suffered a cut to the elbow.
I got myself out of the car, and then realised we could still hear kenny loggins playing in the back ground, with the sound of a very unhealty sounding valver engine.
The car as you have seen from the pictures is a wreck. I am lucky to be alive.
I couldnt bring myself to tell Neil for about 2 weeks knowing that it was his baby.
But the bucket seats and harness's installed in the car, kept me firmly in place i as looking at a very shap looking piece of glass/sunroof that at the force of the impact could of easily removed my head!
Now 7 months on, iam still having an ongoing battle with insurance companies. My original insurance company said it was an act of god. So wassnt covered. So iam taking the matter up privatly and cannot disclose anymore details.
