second hand dephaser

I personally wouldn't bother. Its not like you'll be saving £500.

They're cheap enough.

he said it has done 17k and the engine dropped a valve so he changed the whole engine ? and £40 thanks

It is a risk. I'd say if your changing it for peace of mind it defeats the point.

Saying that I have one I can sell you!:rasp:

dont b smart i got a new cambelt and aux belt kit . but dont now were or how much a dephaser pulley is just been told the £150 ") and seen them on ktec racing

if it was me id go new. As its a major component amd not a simple swap over if it goes, it wont cause a cambelt failure but just increased hassle

I never had my dephaser changed when i bought the car 2 years ago when birchdown did my belts, at the time they weren't talked about on here, but because of all the threads on here lately in my head i think i can hear it ticking even though its probably fine lol
If your like me once i get sonethings up in my head, itll eat me away and always be in the back of my mind if i put a used one

When its new you know itll last and be carefree

Thats what id do

Its not about being smart, its about stating the obvious.

£150 for peace of mind with a brand new one, or spend £40 and risk it going, then needing another new one and another full belt kit.

i wasnt on about u daniel i was on about the one saying about a second hand timing belt kit . and wheres the best place to buy a new one from thanks

Either a main dealer or a renault specialist on here.

Theres a renault parts guy on here (Wests Renault is his username) he'll do a good discount I expect so will be worth pm'ing him.

i'll double check tomorrow, retail from the dealer is about £170 now, we'll be cheaper than that no bother!

I can see the temptation but can you 100% trust the seller about the age (not a dig as I don't even know who the seller is) also may have had poor oil etc, you never know.
It's a gamble, it would probably pay off but what if it doesn't? Your decision ;)

I aint just not got much knowledge about them didnt now weather you could buy a second hand one . but i have looked in to it now and wil b buying a new one ") thanks everyone

I dont see why this would be a problem; if it dosnt look/feel worn then it should be ok. If they can be taken appart, you could even check if its all ok inside (check the paddles/plates for movement etc). -£100 seems a good investment to me if it is in good condition, I wouldnt put a dephaer in the same bracket as a belt - but thats just my opinion.

Threads just keep on getting better on this forum :clown:
£100 seems like a good investment? Do you know how much they cost?

I thought someone quoted £150 for a new one? thus he is saving over £100... if checked properly it could be a good buy

checked?? how would that be done off the car??

whether he saves £100 or not i would never put a second hand dephaser on my car because known my luck it would start clattering after a few miles.

i would just buy a new one at least you get 12months on it

yea bought a new one now just wounderd if you could put one on . just had an expensive month so thought i would save a bit of cash lol

Yes but, if the second hand one fails, then it's a new belt job so gonna cost 600 quid with a new dephaser

Luck of the draw though really. There could be nothing wrong with the 2nd hand one
