security advice needed!!

  Renault Clio 1.8 RSi

hi guys, i was hoping for some advice regarding security for my 1.4RT Clio.

a couple of weeks ago my car was broken into, my Sony CDX-CA600 stereo (probably a good thing) and a couple of other bits like the MagLite in the glovebox were stolen. i have just ordered a new Kenwood KDC-M4524G, but before i fit it, i want to see what security you guys would suggest. im not bothered about it being thatcham-approved, i just want something that will deter the low-life scum from thinking they can help themselves to my stuff!

thanks for any and all help! oh, and as im new to this forum, a big hello to you all! :)

I have spoke to a few insurance companys and they dont care about alarms anymore. They used to, but now they just tell me its for my own benafit and will keep your insurance down as you wont be making a claim for a stolen car. But in short run I have found there are no reductions.

Just take some simple measures Rich...

If you have a face off head unit, take it with you... The first place a thief looks is in the glove box or under the seat.

Dont leave ANYTHING in view... Even something non-descript, all it takes is something to attract their attention, and theyll break in and start rummaging.

Fit a CAT 1 so that as soon as a window is broken or door opened, the siren starts wailing...

Have you considered security window film? Pentagon Auto Tint do varying shades of security film which just looks like window tints but make the glass virtually unbreakable... Plus it looks cool!

Just a couple of ideas to get you started! ;)

£300+

I have a Clifford, then I added the Perimiter Protection Module - you go near car, it warns you away.. very cool.

Is that price fitted? I want one :D (when I have the cash :()

I paid £330 Fitted with the Module. Without the Module, I think a Concept 300 fitted is about £270. Very good place (Ive seen the same alarm, without the module £399 fitted) - Got recommendations off of Scooby Net - If they good enough to install in a Scooby...

Very helpful people too.. I rung up a month later with a question, and he explained to me why and what was happening - if I couldnt fix it using the Valet Buttons, I could take it down and hed sort it using his laptop - nice fella.

How much is this security window film? Sounds quite good?

Is it expensive?

by the time theyve figured out you have security window film, you got a smashed window on ya hands.. heh. Id only use it aswell as an alarm!

Yes, it is quite expensive, but surely its cheaper to replace a window than lose thousands of pounds of I.C.E.????

For normal tints its about £335, and for clear supaglass its £405, and for the tinted supa stuff its £530. These are plus VAT, but bear in mind that its only about £200 dearer than the tinted window price to make them virtually unbreakable...

Good question...

The answer is yes.

I dont know how exactly, but the Pentagon stuff is designed so that in event of emergency it can be removed from the inside but not smashed from the out.

after getting my punto broken into and havin my whole system taken i thought gettin a sigma m30 cat 1 would put them off. just had it broken into again 2 weeks ago. just got all my stuff bk from the insurance company but i dont really wanna put it all back in again though. both times they have done the locks. just put a screw driver in and poped the pin thing up. they were just rippin it all out witht hte alarm going off.

little b******s.

" I dont know how exactly, but the Pentagon stuff is designed so that in event of emergency it can be removed from the inside but not smashed from the out. "

If you think about it, the film is on the inside so will not stretch if you push against the outside, hence the window cannot be smashed in - but if you push it from the inside then youre not stretching the film but just pushing it in a direction it can move; there is no restriction on the outside of the glass so it will just fold where you push it.

Does that make sense to anyone other than me?!? :D

On my next car i will be getting the Supaglass, i dont see the point in getting fancy alarms. The CAT1 i have at the mo got me no discount.

Thiefs know even factory fit alarms are too good to breach, the tactic these days are for them to break into your house and then nick your keys, then they can drive away. So, the best thing to do is obvious, get some kind of tracking device.

This was proven a while back when a nice new AMG SLK was stolen off of my drive.

Y not get a wintec Remote start Remote Pager car alarm.

I have the Wintec LEA bla bla and its the dogs, and if you get the interior sensor add on, which i am currently buying rite this minute, then it is a great idea. My Key Fob has a 1200m range so is more or less priceless and if n e 1 touches or breakes into the car, the alarm goes off and it bleeps/vibrates my pager making me aware so i can run back to the car.

Just an idea, and althoiough its expensive to get fitted and buy, ebay have sum great offers on there motorola ones.
