Seeping vvt

Changed the seal on the vvt solenoid on Saturday and I looked today and it appears to be seeping oil.

Is it likely I've not seated it properly? I tapped it in with sockets and made sure it was sat flush then slid in the vvt and tapped that down then tightened up the 10mm bolt.

Might just be oil that was on the sensor, drive it and keep an eye on it. The vvt sensor on mine has a groove worn into it where the seal sits so not that good a fit on the new seal. Doesnt seem to be leaking now though.

Cleaned all the sensor before fitting it but some may have escaped. I'll try my best to clean up the oil and see if it comes back. It's not exactly spitting it out as it's just sat in the seal.
Proper annoying as I just changed the gaskets on the mani and didn't want to be taking it all apart again. Oh well.
Hope I didn't damage the seal tapping it in place. Don't wanna spend 12 quid on another

I think the seal will be OK if its fully home. Its a bit of a b*****d to get in square tbh. I noticed the top of the vvt sensor is quite loose on mine so might even be coming out of there. If its very minor would not worry about it, can chase stuff like this forever sometimes.

Just replaced the seal on mine also and seems to be leaking as it was before. Seated it home with a socket, put it all back together and thought was fine. Looked the other day and there was a small pool of oil again on the rocker cover.

Will have another look at the weekend just to see if it is the inside or outside of the seal that is leaking. I have another Dephaser solenoid I can try to see if that improves anything.

Otherwise I may reseat the seal with a small bit of instant gasket round it to see if that helps. Very annoying.

Absolutely shite isn't it! Was so tight to remove the old one id be worried about damaging the new seal getting it out again.

Did you just push in your solenoid to seat it? I can't believe it's one single bracket that holds the sensor down in place. Shocking design

Yep, just pushed the solenoid back in after seating the seal. Just pushed in and not exactly tight!! I can only assume without having a proper look that the leak is from the inside of the seal as the outer part is really tight. Will have another look and try the other solenoid just in case.

I also need to make sure it is not one of the rocker cover bolts in that area as quite a common problem also!

Worth checking that it's not the actual bolt that's holding it in that is leaking...
That's a good shout actually. I didn't put any sealant on it and certainly didn't notice an o ring.

Thing is the bracket sits under it so harder to nip it up for a proper seal. What sort of gasket sealer do you recommend? Don't want silicone getting in there.
Access looks pretty tight to get in without removing the inlet annoyingly!

Loctite 5980, the black stuff.

Brake cleaner the area and bolt and stick some under the head of the bolt.

  dan's cast offs.
hard to c**k it up, even if it doesn't go in straight it sits on a lip so will straighten itself out.
