Sell the 1.2 and get a 1.5?

  133, 182, Kangoo 182
Was looking to replace my PH2 1.2 with a PH1 172 but insurance is probably going to be too much to do this. Was considering replacing it with a 1.5 diesel instead.. either the DCI 80 or DCI 100.

Before you say "if you want performance get the 172..", it's not performance I'm after.. well, as long as it's better than the 1.2 anyway!

Cost wise I don't know how much I can get them for, but insurance is about £200 more for the diesel. Less road tax, less fuel, more torque, slightly better 0-60, sounds like a tractor.

Has anyone else swapped and have any thoughts to help me decide?

hold out untill insurance is reasonable, depending on how much you want it, you'll end up with a 172 anyway... ''interim'' cars are usually a waste of money

Hm good point. I guess I'll be spending twice as much by going for one "in the middle" as well.

Yeh i'd just save until you can afford the insurance on a 172 - it will be worth it and in the longrun you'll probably end up saving a bit of money.

Been thinking about it again and now I'm undecided again >.<

I'm thinking a DCi 80 or 100 + mods would last me a while...

go for it imo, if you wait too long the 172 will become old and may cost you quiet abit in the long run.

dci 100 will be more than fast enough upgrade for you.

im used to mine so it doesnt feel as quick anymore but i dont have that torque sensation when i drive the 172 that i used to get when i jumped in it from the 1.2.

my 100 trashes 1.2s no problem pulling all the way to its redline of 125mph in no time!

I have a 1.5d 106 and its slow as piss. goes about the same as a 1.2

I went from a 1.2 to a 1.5. Kinda not by choice but anyway...

Dci is faster once rolling, better on the hills, feels heavier, steering feels heavier, handles pretty much the same

I had a lot of respect for the dci's but my gf's mums breaks a lot tbh. Its got FSH and under 50,000 miles but things seem to go wrong a lot. Nothing serious but just niggles like blocked ERG valves etc.

They're pretty nippy though.

the old 106 diesels aren't even turbo diesels are they? No wonder they're so slow, Every diesel these days has a turbo, they're shite without.

I did the swap in January, and would't look back. My DCI feels muh quicker, out of junctions, overtaking without dropping a gear, and just ride the wave of torque in 3rd on country road, I highly recomend the swap, and £20.00 tax from next year.

A dci 80 would be a fair bit quicker than a mk2 1.2 16v however the dci 86 is probably exactly the same as the mk2 1.2 16v, maybe a bit more over 80ish.

I've driven the dci 86 and it felt no faster than my mk2 1.2 16v, however to be fair it only had about 15 miles on the clock so was no where near run in.

parkers claim the mk2 ph2 is 12.6 to 60 the mk3 dci86 is 12.3 to 60 hmm its going to be a close thing

the dci80 11.8 to 60 wouldnt have any trouble against either mk2 or mk3

a mk3 1.2 13 to 60 its the tce you have to worry about they quite popular an 10.7 to 60 even a dci106 would have trouble with that :(

but its all ifs an maybes an to much time looking at figures the mk3s have more torque then mk2 ph2s ;)

mk3s feel slower than they are not because of the weight but because of the size, my mum has a 1.2 16v mk3 and it feels mega slow even compaired to mk2 1.2 16vs but in reality its really just the same! think they have shorter ratios to make them accelerate slightly quicker to offset the weight if you can use the word quicker!!
