SEO- how to choose a company?

[FONT=verdana, arial, helvetica]Hi,

Im looking to improve the SEO of my site (www.outclubbing.com) and ultimately want to appear in the top2-5 for key word searches such as "nightclubs in ___(town/county)" etc but not sure how I go about choosing an appropriate company.

Ive been stung a few times before so I am very aprehensive about giving large sums of money up front and would much prefer a "pay per results system".

Any advice is much appreciated.

did you do the website yourself?

SEO just requires a number of things including:

good metadata and individual page titles, metadata per page.
good clean code (no tables)
seperate css to the page code
good use of H tags
good use of URL's (i.e mysite.co.uk\photos_of_clubbers\sheffield\)
Keep your content updated regular
and most importantly LOADS of link backs and from as many 'quality' websites as possible. register your site on online directories, exchange links with other similar websites, forums, blogs, etc.

SE's take ages to pick up websites, and even longer to work your way up to a good result. especialy if its something that there are many other similar sites out there for.

If your handy with the web, then I personaly wouldnt pay for it. I do my own and my furniture webshite gets loads of hits from search engines.
