Serial Splitter

  Fiesta ST
Anyone know where I can a serial lead from which has two serial outputs on one end but the data is mirrored out of both ends?

I have a Phone System which I need to capture the SMDR data output to two PC's.

Im confused do you want say one male end going to 2 females to enable you to connect to 2 pc's (or the other way around 1 female to 2 males)

Just postage if you want... ill do it tomorrow at work or bring the crap home and do ti here. Are they all 9 way D types you want?? As sometimes they are 25 way!

yeah m8 - D9 jobby, if you can do it that would be great! I'll just use normal serial leads for the length I need as long as I can join them together securely?

Oh and how long would you want the cables?? Couple of metres??? Standard you buy is usually 1M or 3M... I've had a look around the net and cant find a splitter one like you said. I thought they did them!?!!?

EDIT!!

Oh fine Il make one with a male one end splitting out to two females from the back of the male.

Il post up some pics tomorrow either at work or here so you can confirm if I've followed what you want correctly!

yeah I've struggled to find one also - They are some on american sites but they are the wrong way round - I could get gender changers etc but would be better just get the proper one - 3m would be great m8

By the sounds of what he is wanting to do he wants null modem
style cable anyway.

Code:
                  /---> Slave 1 RX (Pin 2)
Host TX (Pin 3) -|
                  \---> Slave 2 RX (Pin 2)

                   /---> Slave 1 GND (Pin 5)
Host GND (Pin 5) -|
                   \---> Slave 2 GND (Pin 5)

None of the other pins can be connected (it will stop the cable from working) as RS232 is not open collector/drain.

Just to confirm these are the connectors your after...

Ok I've nicked a Normal Lead off our telecoms eningeer.

Sorry m8 in fact I need a Male D25 to two female D9 ( I was thinking of the Samsung Systems doh!)

D25:

Red -> pin 2
Blue -> pin 3
Green -> pin 4
Yellow -> pin 5
White -> pin 6
Black -> pin 7
Brown -> pin 20

D9:

Red -> pin 2
Blue -> pin 3
White -> pin 4
Black -> pin 5
Brown -> pin 6
Yellow -> pin 7
Green ->pin 8

If you can't do this m8 - then no worries.

also if you can make it 3m that would be super!

No problem! Il try and do it today for you :)

Out of interest what do you do and who do you work for??

This cable is only "one way" isn't it?

i.e the PC is not sending any data to the phone system?

well yes - but that lead they use is to programme the system also.

Cool. As TX is shorted on both 9 ways, if you need to transmit (i.e to program) you'd need to unplug one of them as both PC's will be driving the TX signal.

Alternatively you could not wire TX on the 9 ways but this would prevent you from using this cable as a programming cable.

If the phone system uses hardware flow control this cable won't work either as pins 4 & 7 on the 9 ways would be shorted together.

Depends on the phone software and the software you're using to capture the data.

Yeah the two machines will just be capturing the output SMDR data from the PBX. Engineers have their own programming serial lead for doing the system.
