Hi all,
To cut a long story short my Clio 1.2 Expression (2001) not so long ago was randomly locking up under no braking on the rear passenger side wheel with the ABS light coming on + the serv light. I replaced the rear bearings and pads on both sides and the drum etc seemed fine.
After doing the above I have been driving the car again without any issues for over a month when tonight it all started again!
Got in the car, it started as normal but the streering felt heavy, I thought nothing of it and pulled away as normal when the rear passenger side wheel locked up once again just like before with the ABS light coming on. I decided to pull out the ABS fuse and try again to determine if it was the ABS causing the problem but even with the fuse out the problem still occured right away. I then tried reversing and pulling on the handbrake and releasing it as I have a feeling it could be the handbrake sticking on as thats exactly how it feels, but how could this happen if the handbrake is fully off and I am driving along normally! I dont know if its worth mentioning but I have a bad habbit of leaving the handbrake on overnight when it is parked up as this is how I was taught when I was learning to drive.
Anyway after managaing to move 10 feet without it locking up again I managed to drive home very slowly without the problem occuring again but my speedo has went off and my power streering is gone. When I got home I put the ABS fuse back in and drove up and down the street but the ABS light is still on and my speedo is still broke but my power streering has returned.
I know this is a very long post but I am trying to give as much info as possible,
Me and my Dad are now totally stuck for idea and I am going to ring a local Renault Specialist tomorrow and take it down I think.
But just thought I would post on here to see if anyone else has had any of the above problems and have they been linked in the past?
I am thinking maybe its time for a new ECU although I know this wont be cheap and it has me thinking will it be worth it!
Thanks for taking the time to read this and any feedback would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks again, Sam
