Serious help needed think I have f@£ked my car

  Black Sheep
Need some help I was messing about with my headunit at the wiring trying to get it out cause I thought it was broken it was actually only a fuse and it's a long stupid story. The problem is when I went to start my car it won't start I get a clicking sound but no firing and I know the battery is not flat so thts not the problem. Every thing else is working although the windows an windscreen wipers go more slowly than usual this is why I am really worried. What could I have disturbed back there that would cause this. Could it be the immobilizer.

are you sure your battery isnt dead? how long did you leave it before you tried starting it?

I had jump leads on and it won't start even then. But I did only have them on for like a minute cause I was in a panic lol so maybe I just need to give it a good charge that might explain the wipers and windows. Would it not be possible to screw it up like that by pulling a cable from the head unit

If the engine is not on .. then the wipers/windows will be slower.

If it just clicks (loudly?) it could be the starter motor. It could be TDC sensor saying not to crank. It could be someone has replaced your engine with a clicker.

Do the headlights light up ? Does the car still lock with the button ? Has it got an inertia switch (IIRC only Ph1's had this, but it's French and they make it up as they go along) which needs popping ?

I was pulling them not like a maniac just a bit of frustration cause those annoying clips were stiff. The doors still lock and indicators work ect also headlights. I had my sub on and my heater is jammed on full cause of the resistor pack I never had it on long but the gain was up so this Hopefully drained the bat fast even though this was only for like four mins I feel like a tit writing this if it is a flat which I hope I am, than a total f ing idiot if it isn't cause I got the bus home from my work lol but when I have had a flat before it normally starts with jump leads nearly instant if you know what I mean. Maybe the bat is never getting a good charge with the fan on full blast ect.

Checked all the fuses this is how i am in this mess over a blue fifteen fuse. My headunit stopped working but still had power so I thought can't be fuse. Now please don't laugh at this story lol. I took my headunit out thinking it was finished like most of the faulty goods I seem to own it is a long list at the moment. I was about to toss the headunit but thought I would take it apart and look inside before I did couldn't see any burnt bits so put it back together properly. Put in my old unit which also never worked so obviously had to check fuse box and it was blown surprise surprise. Put my old unit back in and it was working again then stopped so I thought I must have feked it taking it apart so started taking it out being very pissed off at my stupidity removed it all ect and threw it in the boot. Went to start the car at home time wouldn't start and got two busses home, all over a f@@@ing fuse. So now I have no headunit and no car feel free to laugh now.

did you remove and cables from the battery? mine did this when i fitted my sound system. i completely disconnected the battery and after a looooong day completely forgot to re-connect the earth. car did exactly the same thing as you're describing

I never had the leads of mate. Going to put jump leads on it for a good fifteen mins and pray when I turn the key if not I will curl up in a ball and cry lol. I have had flat batterys that have taken ages to charge before the car starts. If I had pulled something out ect other stuff would be not working I imagine.

try and jump it with the negative on the chassis rather than the battery, like the engine hanger near the air filter housing. i had a problem with a dodgy earth and couldn't start the car with a battery jumped to the battery, but when it was jumped to the engine hanger (the thing they use to lift the engine) it would start. i also got the clicking sound when trying to start.

i seem to have the same problem slob...., but i installed the cd player by cutting wires to trim it down and look neater there all connected up so thats fine then the cd player started to flash so i put my standard one back in... . Just i get the clicking no fire i have to have a few attempts with the gas then itll start...

its really doing my nut in and if someone could tell me about the fuses etc. and how to get to them and what to look for would be greatly appreciated.

My car did this, basically messing with the wires when installing a new head-unit and some metal on a connection must of touched the metal case for the head-unit and it blown a fuse somewhere. After getting p*ssed off and not finding it I called an auto electrician who found the fuse within 10 mins, to the naked eye it looked fine though! So just a thought if all else fails, call and auto electrician :)

It was a flat bat luckily took ten mins on jump leads though. Sheepish if you have this problem give a good long charge. A mechanic mate of mine says check your ignition fuse or you may have shorted your battery.
