Regardless, i think renault is still your best bet for diagnosing this....they built the car, they have the equipment.

^^^^ that means f*ck all ^^^^

Renault are not exactly sh*t hot at repairs if reading some of the stories on here is anything to go by . And they weren't exactly helpful when he took the car into the garage were they .

I've got a decat fitted with the 2nd sensor taped up, light on dashboard, but I've never had any running problems (& a lot of decatted people on here seem to running fine).. I would say its nothing to do the decat or air filter.
I would restore it to as original as you can & either go to a Renault garage (not the one you've been to before either) - or get hold of Matt Black.
Just my 2p worth.

i would say you have more wrong than you think, the decat wouldnt make the einge work like that. i think you should look into what edde said, as the coils do like to pack up over time. also if your MAF sensor is up the creek it would produce your problems...

This thing went on mine and I had symptoms exactly like yours...2000 rpm ceiling etc.

Not read all this post.

2nd oxy sensor wont cause the running fault you have.
If its doing exactly as MarKCup's one was the it will be the electronic throttle body at fault.
Wont rev over 2-3000 rpm, throttle pedel unresponsive.
Part number is 8200 110 994 and the price is £179.72 +vat.
Takes about 30 mins max to change, advisable to have all the codes stored erased with the Clip system.

whats a MAF sensor? Anyway I have a few options now. I will try to get hold of Matt Black first, and i might have a trip over to Blackburn as its only 15 mins away. So i t could be

- MAF sensor
- electronic throttle body
- plugs

anything else i should check out?

  Clio 172 Cup
where is the MAF sensor located? Is it affected by an ITG maxogen installation - i took a few parts out from behind the front-left wheel arch when i was installing it.

  Clio 172 mk2
MAF sensor is a mass airflow sensor....I didn't think 172/182 used these as I always thought they used a map sensor (manifold absolute pressure) to do fuelling.

Could be wrong though!

MAF sensors are usually located in the intake tract and I can't see one on my 172...just the throttle control unit.

EASY PEASY, i know what the problem is

have you removed the stupid acoustic valve in the passenger wheel arch?

  Lionel Richie
oh and don't bother with a piggyback unit, you have to cut into the wiring loom

go to BBPT, us, pmurray, hill power

Why would that cause so many problems?

If it was blocked there is still another intake anyway.

Not kicking up an argument here.....just inquisitive.

the pipe that runs from the left hand side of the throttle body on the plenham, down to the the acoustic valve (the thing in the link you posted)

its a rubber pipe, it MUST be blocked off

jpmad4it2- Dont know if this we help you at all but bb tuning may be able to help.
I have their ecu reflashed program on my car and i must say its the best money ive ever spent!
They also fitted my car with their silenced decat pipes. Now i dont want to speak too soon but as far as im aware from all those on here who have decat pipes on their 172/182s its been on the car for roughly 8 months and the engine management light has NOT come on!
Car runs sweet as a nut!
I dont think renault to be honest will be able to do much apart from try and reset everything on your car then to tell you that its your fault because of the mods which will see you out of pocket.
If anything at all give Andy a call at BB tuning and see if he may be able to help 01787 221856.
Mention that i thought he may be able to sort things out.

if they dont have a MAF sensor, surely a fualty MAP sensor could be doing it also if its not using anything else to get readings...

i spoke to Matt Black, im popping over tomorrow so he can have a look at it for me. Fingers crossed :)

Any luck gettin' your car sorted yet ??

this may sound obvious but have tryed a ECU reset? I don't mean taking it to renault I mean disconecting battery, leaving for 30 mins and re-connecting. If ECU had gone in to safe mode, this should sort it. I had a fiat coupe that I modified and whenever I messed around with boost it would go in to safe mode and an ecu reset would sort it. Give it a go if you haven't already, it's free!

i just got a phone call car is ready. He said that the loose lamda sensor was shorting out on the heatshield causing an error in the ECU. He has re-routed the wiring. Strangely enough its costing me £174!!!!!! What the f**k?!?!

Got your pm mate .

F*ck that sounds expensive just to reroute the wiring . Was the lambda sensor just tied up out of the way before ?

One consolation , if it was that , is that it wasn't anything major f*cked up with the engine causing the problem .

yeah the sensor was just tied up underneath the car, but i had a brass lamda sleeve on it so how could it have been shorting out? It may have been pressing up against the heatshield i guess. Im totally f**king confused here.

dont worry i will be disputing why it cost so much. He did say he's been working on it from 9am til 2pm, so i guess labour will be most of it - but why the f**k did it take him so long to figure it out? Im not very pleased!
