Servicing. Any problems doing it myself?

The Clio's next service is due soon, is there any problems doing it myself?

All my old cars I’ve serviced and I’ve just kept the invoices/ receipts for it and jotted down at what mileage I carried out the service.

I’m a Marine Engineer and have been for the past 4 years, I work with engines on a daily basis as well as that I’m very into my cars so a basic oil and filter change is a doddle.

Now I’ve got my RB 182 (which is the most expensive/ low mileage car I’ve owned) I’m not sure whether to do it myself and keep all the receipts for proof of servicing or should I pay the extra and take it to a garage so it can be stamped in service book? Would just like some feed back on what people do with their’s or the best way to go about this?

Personally I do it myself, make a note in the book and keep receipts. Unless it's a new/prestige car I'm not sure stamps are worth the extra over just doing it yourself (unless something major like belts etc).

If you know what your doing then go for it. Like said just keep the reciepts from the stuff you use etc. We are talking Clio's here not Ferraris.

Personally, I get a stamp every 12k, with an oil change carried out by myself halfway at 6k.

Its all about the stamp...if you want full Renault/Specialist Service History, then go for that...if you're willing to save money, do the job properly and look after your car, keep the receipts...and make notes of what you've done, when you've done it and mileage, etc and if people can see the car hasn't wanted for anything...you should be okay.

Thanks for the advice. Think I'l go ahead and do it myself. I've done a fair few cam belt's before but I know what the 1*2's are like and I've heard one to many horror stories.

Am I best off sticking to the Renault branded oil? Now I know I'm doing it myself it might be worth paying the bit extra for better quality oil.

This is generally the preffered favourite 'luxury' oil.

I serviced my 1.2 myself after a certain point, have reciepts to prove and im making a when and what mileage excel print out to show any potential buyers..

But im unsure weather to find a good reasonable garage and have the stamps in the book for the 182 for resale value,

IMO most Joe Bloggs will steer clear if its simply not invoice from a garage and stamped in the book rather than reciepts and a few notes... opinions?

I'm in exactly the same position Guysy. My 182 is coming up for a service. Wondering about the stamp for resale value.
Mine has also had every stamp from a Renault Dealer. Is it worth me carrying on at a proper Renault Dealer for full RSH, or fine taking it to one of the specialists on here, in that I won't be able to claim full Renault Service History, just Full Service History. If I'm correct?

Resale value? On a mk2? I really wouldn't worry.

Keep the receipts for the bits, have the cambelt done at a pro and you're away.
