Servicing at 'non' renault garages

  A4 Avant & A3
Hi all,

My car is getting very near the 24k service..
Just wondering, are there any disadvantages to having it serviced by a renault specialist rather than a dealer??? Mainly, if i was to sell up, would i get a bit more or sell easier/quicker if it has Full "renault" service history?

Only asking as i've had a quote from a local dealer. (one which has been good the times i've been, so not worried about that side of it)
but it was a fair... well a lot dearer than a renault specialist (that may be an obvious statement there lol)

So.. what to do...
It's going to need doing in june.

I personally prefer using main dealers for servicing, (and rectification tbh). I just feel more at ease and if you keep using them, I think there's less likelyhood for being overcharged or for being charged for work that hasn't been done. I do think the extra cost is also offset by probably being able to sell for slightly more if main dealer service history.

Nahhh no way, it wouldnt make a difference where it was serviced at.

All it is, is an oil change, oil filter, and air filter. Anyone could do that to the same standard of work. Why pay Reno prices?

Yeah, but having "FRSH" on your ad in autotrader looks more appealing than "FSH" imo. Not by loads and will vary by people's opinions.

I am glad to not be using Renault for my 36k service.. you have more chance of getting what is actually meant to be done, completed correctly from a specialist IMHO !!

If someone were to look at my service book and spot the sudden change from using Renault for servicing to Specialists, I would quite happily explain why I switched and would hope that that would boost the confidence of the potential purchaser.

Granted I can't see myself selling my V6, but there I feel happier knowing my car has been "looked after by" a specialist rather than "serviced at" a franchise dealer.

Of course my V6 is out of warranty and my megane is not, so she will get serviced at a local renault dealership for the forseable future.

Because you ned to check more parts than just that. Many Renault none trade dealerships don't check them and since if something failed which you could easily argue as part of the service should be checked ie ball joints then Renault would refuse to pay for any damage since if a correct service had been done they would have spotted it.

Just imagine how you'd feel you've got a car with a smashed up front end damaged wheel etc and Renault have said because the garage didn't check the ball joints as part of the service as hey should were not paying for fixing it, you need to take that up with the small Renault garage who did the service.

Companies like Rentech would check everything like that though surely ?

Good dealerships yep would. But quite a lot on here don't use them and I feell a warning should be given I can otherwsie expect a thread one day to say just what I have done and they'll say noone warned them.

We do above and beyond what the Renault service schedule says, will be the same for any other specialist IMO. Small companies cant afford to cut corners.

What a load of rubbish.

Renault garages very rarely carry out the work they say they will. They scratch paintwork, are rude, and in total, a complete waste of time.

My car was returned under warranty several times in the first few months of ownership, each time because renault had lied and said they'd carried out work they hadnt.

Wouldnt take it to a main dealer (especially bridges in reading) if servicing was free.

After using a specialist for my valver (Clarkie's Calrton Garage) there's no way I'd even consider going back to a main dealer!

The care, cost and service is different league!

Thats not very fair an true though of all dealerships though is it?

I can point to a number of dealerships and none Renault dealerships where your experiances would be met with just as poor service.

I agree with you and a good local independent garage will look after your car much better than a main dealer... and some of them skip jobs when they have targets to meet and are running short of time, whereas a good local garage wouldn't do that and if a job takes longer than it should because of some problem that has cropped up, they'll complete the job properly as they value your custom and want you to return.

I would trust a good independent over a Renault franchised dealer anyday!! Or even a Peugeot dealer as well... a long story that I'm not going into so late at night... suffice to say that a Pug V6 406 coupe they had 'serviced' had never moved an inch from where it had been parked 3 hours earlier, yet they said it had been serviced!!!
