servicing - cambelt?

I understand that the cambelt should be changed at the 72K service or 5 years, or which ever comes first.
I Know that cambelt is important - a bust one = trashed engine.

However, my 2001 - 172 is real low mileage, (around 8000mile) garage want to change the belt - on that mileage isit really still important to get the belt changed or how much longer will it last???

5 years as the rubber degrades making the belt weaker , best to get it changed i wouldnt pay more than 250-300 for the job though

As jon says the belt will perish over time so best to change it regardess of mileage.

Renault quoted me the tidy sum of £600 to do the job....obviously I am going to go elsewhere!
