Servicing & stamps...

My Trophy has a fully stamped service history as well as plenty of receipts and invoices from the past owners and myself. It's due a service now and I'm wondering whether it's worth taking it to a garage just for the stamp, or keeping the receipts from doing it myself and saving a heck of a lot of money.

Opinions/recommendations?

Just do it youself and keep the receipts, think most people like to see receipts over stamps in a book.

Why have the belts been done twice lol have you driven that far?
The clown that got them done last time missed the ridiculously noisy dephaser pulley and didn't bother changing it! Fred sorted it out once it was in my ownership :approve:

Swaying towards that tbh, just wondering if it's worth not getting it stamped as it's been done every time so far. I think I'm just being anal tbh!

Get the oil and filter changed at a garage so they can dispose of the oil and you can get a stamp.

Go home, carry out the rest of the service yourself and keep all the receipts for the new owner.

I usually get the oil done at a garage anyway, it works out cheaper than buying the parts alone usually. Will they stamp the service book just for an oil change though?

Yeah, if they're proper, they'll stamp it ''Oil change only'' if they don't care they'll leave it blank! lol

Are we talking places like National here or independant 'backstreet' garage type places? I usually take it to National as it's only down the road and they often have offers on.

  Maybe a 172 Cup..
I'd rather see receipts. As long as they were there, not bothered about a stamp. You can get any stamp you want made up for a couple of quid..

I'd rather see an invoice for the work done. Just because someone's bought the parts, doesn't mean they've been fitted and just as importantly, if they've been fitted properly.

The fact you can make a stamp for £5 or buy one off evay to me makes receipts way more important!

I had about 10's of thousands of pounds worth of receipts for the Frp. Way more important to me.

To be honest, I saw National's work first hand on my old car and was shocked! If I broke down outside a National garage now I would rather push my Clio to the next garage than let them work on it!

I suppose it depends which one you go to. I've visited one in Bolton and the local one in Bury... I'd go back to the Bury one for work done but staying well clear of Bolton!

I just keep the invoices and write on them the mileage and date and what was carried out.

Then if i where to sell my car, I'd do what I did last time. Write a quick word doc with mileage and date, and all work that has been carried out. The new owner was happy with it we even discussed stamps not always being that reliable for work carried out.

Good idea that, lets you keep on top of it all in one place. I do have a s**t load of invoices etc. as well as stamps so would take forever to look through!
