Servicing The Car Myself

Ok boys and girls, servicing the car myself, 1.2 16V.

What thing's am I going to need for this? Thinking of the usual stuff of Air filter, Oil filter, Spark plugs, 3 litres of 10W40 oil. Going to get the lot from Renault unless anyone has any other recommnedations?

Will I need anything else?

Yeah! Thats the kid! what kind of motor you got? if its a 172 with an alloy sump it doesn't have a copper washer, has one with a rubber insert.

8mm square sump key!

and if you can get to a motor factors...avoid higher prices, although its nothing overly expensive your buying anyway!

the 1.2 16v oil filter is best accessed from behind the drivers wheel, the plactic container and is easy to get off using a cloth to grip it with...i found anyway

IMO, if you're going to be servicing your own car and want to do it thoroughly, you should be looking at the published schedule (at the least) rather than trying to put together a random list of jobs on an internet forum. if you've not got the service book, i can offer to send you a photocopy from mine in the post if that helps

After having a look at edde's guide was aiming for Renaults "A" service, which is basically filters, oils, brakes amongst others and a "B" service just for peace of mind as well.

10w40 semi synthetic for a D4F 1.2 Engine. Im sure the filter part number ends in either 408 or 642 smallest one anyway.

Minor Service should be

Oil Filter and levels.

Major Service should be.

Oil Air Plugs levels
