setting alarm

Should the alarm beep when setting on my mk2 172 or should i just hear the sound of the doors locking . Usually i just hear the doors lock but on a couple of occasions i have heard a series of beeps like a lot of car alarms make. Anybody elses do the same and any ideas what it might be ?

Mine normally just clicks (doors locking) think it beeps if either a door is open slightly.

I know it beeps when youve switched the ultra sonic sensors off, but you have to do the old 2 turns in the ignition routine to do that!!

Think someone else on here had the problem a few weeks back. Try doing a search.

Im having major problems with my 172 alarm which is why its going back into renault on thursday.Mine keeps going off constantly for no reason. To deactivate it i have to turn the key till the engine lights come on then turn it off then back to the engine lights then off again. When i then lock it it then gives off a set of beeps which sounds like what youre getting. So id get it back to renault to get it checked out asap.

Leah. Yours is beeping because youve de activated the sensors inside. I had your problem. the dealer needs to swap the 2 wires over on the unit. changes the sensitivity. Ive had no problems since.

Cheer norfolkminis, ill make sure the dealer changes the wires around.De activating the sensors just now is the only way i can get the thing to shut up. Its been driving me and my neighbours nuts. This is the second time its going back to renault for this problem so am getting really fed up now.

Same thing happend with mine, delear fixed it no probs.

you can not turn the sonics up or down its a compact alarm not a premier the siren does all the work

I take you mean adjust sensitivity of the alarm?? I took my Mk2 172 back because it was way to sensitive. The dealer removed my head unit to gain access to the alarm unit and swapped two wires over. Apparently this is the only adjustment you can do to the standard alarm. And its worked fine since.

the alarm unit is not behind the radio its under the wiper motor you take the wipers off then the weather strip scuttle panel the wiper motor out and the alarm siren is bolted to the heater unit and the sonic wires are under the cup holders and ash tray with the led plug

I took the car in to get the alarm problem seen to again today. This time theyve told me its faulty sensors, and not the control unit that was the problem the last time. So its been fixed under warranty and its not made a sound since ive got it home. Hopefully i wont be making a third trip back again.
