I've been contemplating this for ages and I can't decide which way to go.

I'll be ordering my company car in the next couple of weeks which will be a Golf GT TDI.

I was originally going to sell the Clio as I thought it was worth buttons but having looked on Ebay, Pistonheads etc, it looks like it will be worth 3-4k.

Car is a 2002 172 on 63k. It will be totally standard come sale time and the bits and bobs will probably bring another £500-£700.

Do I get rid, bank the cash then buy an Evo'/Catherham/Elise/Other weekend machine?

Or, keep it and maybe strip it and have fun?

My heart says no. 2 but my head says 1 as I could go faster for less in a stripped 106/Saxo and could go alot faster for not too much more.

T'is true but I begrudge spending money on it ie. coilovers etc. as I know i'll never see that money again and someone else could take the hit for me.

Plus, I can't helping thinking that something with a turbo would be much cheaper & easier to get massive speed from.

Evo' 8 keeps calling.

I wouldn't spend that kinda money on a weekend car tbh! But I guess you have more money than me ;) It's not just the car purchase, but the increased petrol, insurance, tax and maintenance costs as well...

But if your after a weekend car why dont you buy yourself some thing like a kit car and make it up with a K20A2 engine? them things are bloody good engines specially in ariel atoms or minis

Despite the fact they handle as good, sometimes its been claimed better and theres absolutely f**k all in it point to point with a 172, yeah you're completely right.

Ok maybe you like to read what i put again. as i said nothing about performance.
I simply stated that he knows what his car has done an that if you go out an look at buying a 106 gti or a saxo vtr/vts that a good 90% of them are owned by absolutle idiots that think the rev limiter bounce is a good thing and its been ragged to hell, but they never tell you this when they sell it you.
Point is HE knows what his car has done, he dont know what some ones old car has done (they might say different) i really do hate people that read in to a load of text the wrong sodding way.

Icarus is after a Clio in MS if youre interested in selling :)
I'll sell it to Naith. It's the one that tried to rape him @ RS Tuning!

I would love to build something but I don't have the space with my current house.

Plus, I think I'd only enjoy the build of a kit car as the cars themselves don't really appeal.

ben i wouldnt mate as imo it would be a regrettable move.
Charles, my heart says that but I can't tell myself why.

Why?!

I could just keep it, move in 18 months & get the Evo' as well and stick them all on the drive.
