Sharing a folder between iMac G5 and MBP

I have a folder on my imac desktop which i would like to access from my MBP, and read and write to it. i.e open and edit files.

Am i right in thinking this should be pretty simple to set up?

I have added the folder to the shared folders pane in the preferences and given everything read and wriite access. But on the MBP i can only read it not edit it??

yeah its pretty easy - you might have to log on using the account info of the mac your accessing. Unless you change the permissions to read and write to the everyone group.
