Sheared Bolts

  2004 182
So, not too happy right now. I replaced one exhaust mount without issue. Tried to replace the other and managed to shear two of the bolts. I understand that you are supposed to drill the bolts out once sheared, but I just don't have the know how.

I've got one bolt holding the mount on plus cable ties to give me enough to get to a garage. Any idea if somewhere (like Kwik Fit - open on a Sunday) would drill them out for me? Any idea how much?

I did that and had to replace the tray that the bolts in. The nuts are actually part of the tray and you screw the bolts into it. Part was fairly cheap if I remember correctly.

I thought that, but the bolts the tray mounts to are badly corroded - I want convinced I'd be able to get the tray back on.

Wouldn't trust any tyre and exhaust retailer like quick fit, if it doesn't involve scamming customers and oil and filter changes there fucked. Drilling out is fairly easy tbh, centre punch the middle of it and drill down it with a smaller bit then the size of the bolt then either tap it out or try and remove remains of the bolt. I would suggest buying an "easy out" kit but if it's that seized and snapped when you've tried undoing it you"ll have bob hope. Fairly that take it to a local indie.

It does pain me to go to Kwik Fit. Might try drilling first then. Do you use HSS bits, start small then just work up in drill size?

Are left hand drill bits worth buying for this? I've checked Halfords, B&Q and homebase website but no go - any idea where I can pick these up on a Sunday?

Job done. 3 HSS drill bits later, the seized bolts are out. A friend did it for me, and it took about 2 hours. Destroyed the threads, but there is plenty of room to get a nut the other side, so all good.
