Shift light always on!!!!

before i get flamed ive done a search and of the 7 pages that come up on shift lights/optimium gear change light i cant find the answer to my question.

my cousin has a 51 plate 172 and for some reason the shift light stays on all the time!:S

Does any body know what could be causing this?

Sorry should have said its been working fine up until last week then all of a suddern it stayed on!

I've got the same; mine's been on constant for a little while now

Car's running perfect though, no difference at all since the light stayed on

I'm assuming there's a sensor somewhere that needs replacing? Not overly fussed, but just a bit annoying!
