Shocked at the age of some of you!

  Corsa 1.3 CDTI

Being of a similar age Clarel I know where you are comming from. My first car was a bit of a sh1ter TBH but it was fairly quick. Cost me £300 TFPT when I first started to drive which for a 5 door 1.6 wasnt bad at all at the time (1992).

Lately I have been finding though the price of insurance is increasing quiet dramatically due to careless drivers and the common car thief etc etc.

yes,

my mummy and daddy purchased me a 13,000 car and pay for all my insurance (road & track), as well as paying for all of my tyres, running costs like petrol, and all of my upgrades, and they even pay for the trackdays.

Im 23 (coming on 43), I still live at home, I havent got a job, and havent worked since I left school...

my first two cars were very sh*tty. made me appreciate my 172 a hole lot more. and i get that satisfaction everyday. thing is, if you never know the feeling of driving a car to work not knowing if it will get you there or making sqeeking noises or rattling noises you cant really appreciate a decent new car.

my thought exactly!!!

i worked p/t from the age of 13, all the way thru secondary skool. bought my 1st car, a mark 1 fiesta XR2 replica(!!) about 4 mths b4 i was 17, passed my test exactly a month after my 17th (paid for lessons/test etc myself) then got a nova  SR which i put a GSi engine in about 6 mths later. then i went 2 uni @18, sold the nova and went without a car 4 a year cos i had 2 pay rent/food/drink etc. bought my clio about 6mths ago cos i got cash 2gether thru worknig p/t. i always paid for ALL my own insurance/fuel/tax etc etc.....

now im 21, still @ uni, work p/t, got a car, rent a house with the missus, eat well, and im happy!

some of u have had it handed 2 u on a plate!! my parents struggled to pay for my tuition fees (yes i went 2 a "public" skool!!) to get me a good education....why the f**k should i have let them pay for cars/insurance etc etc when i wanted them???

Ive just turned 19, had my 182 for a couple of months now...

Originally owned a 1.2 authentique...

Im still at uni, but up here in scotland you dont pay tuition fees...
I have TWO jobs, and thats just to cover the insurance costs...

what happend with me:

when i was young 13 ish i started saving as much money as i could cos i loved cars so much upto being 17 id saved 6k

i bought a saxo and paid insurance monthly

sold that etc etc and get paid ok for 19 and still live with my parents

so i own my 172 outright and paid the 1st years insurance on the valver which i could insure but iv been ok cos i kept swapping from car to car on the same polocy and theve never said no you cant its 2 high a group they just charge me more but i can afford it cos my only outgoings are credit card bill and phonebill thats it

the only car i couldnt insure was an integra r

but they will let me get a civic when im 20

quite glad i saved when im younger really cos i still go out all the time for meals and nites out buy expensive clothes and get new footware all the time and have a nice car

feels good having everything but i wouldnt own a 172 if i hadnt of saved and been ok with money

if it was finance and loans i wouldnt own the car its more important to live a good life!
Same as me really im always saving and have been for years. I own my 172 and sold the valver to pay for the insurance and mods on the 172. hate the thought of owing money and loosing money through finance. Still enjoy my nights out etc without worrying about spending cash i havent got

cool

feels cool as f**k being me! :p

must admit i wouldnt want to be any one else i love the way im clever with my money but still have everything

I have now been through around 11 years of car ownership - I cannot beleive I have wasted the amount of money I have on cars.

My first was a Mint F reg XR2 (£2,000 and only 4 years old - not bad) in 1993 with £1200 TPFT.

I seem to have spent every year since telling friends and family I cannot afford to do anything "due to the car":(

  Ph1 172

Im 19 and had my cup a few months now it costs me £280 a month for the car and £2169 a year to insure it. I know it seems a lot but if you want some thing like this that much u have just got to work hard for it and dont go spending your money on sh$t.

I still have money left for going out at the weekend as well;)

Im the grand old age of 23 and Ive had a few cars in the 6 years Ive been driving. I was given a metro gta by my parents (not my choice, but it was ok). I part exchanged that for a citroen ax gt, which I began modifying straight away. I was then at uni but my missus was at uni in Bristol and travelling down the mway in a very loud ax wasnt the best plan ever so I bought a 19 16valve (student loans are great). I then left uni after the first year when I was offered a good job with one of the big accounting firms and promptly bought a nice new peugeot 306 d turbo in Blaze yellow - pretty quick and looked good too.

The 306 cost me a small fortune to buy (£13k) and then when I sold it I lost even more (after 2 years it was only worth about £7k). By this point I had also bought myself a new Kawasaki ninja as a toy for the weekends after passing my bike test at the age of 21. The ninja lasted for 9 months and was then part exchanged for my dream bike at the time a Ducati 748 in red! I sold the 306 and got a lease car for a couple of years as I was getting the train to work (it was a crappy corsa sxi and Ive hated it since I started driving to work in it). So that didnt last long and I got a 172 (Still have the corsa as well at the moment as I couldnt get out of the contract cheaply.

So to summarise Ive lost thousands on vehicles over the last 6 years but Ive had some great times and memories from each of them. If you can afford it then go for it. Ive now got the 748 still (although thinking about changing it), an NC30 track bike and the 172, and the corsa until someone at the lease company realises that theyre missing a car thats not being paid for! Its just sitting on my parents drive gathering moss! Ive bought a nice house for myself as well and get to drive the missuss 306 d turbo when I need to,, and yes its the same missus from 6 years ago .

Thats my story...

im 22, 3 years no claims

insurance was £800-paid that. the cost £265 for 3 years. petrol is about £70 a month.

i earn £21,000 so got loads of spare cash!!!

by the way the car is a 172 cup with is now five months old and i got it for £11,000 with 350 miles on clock

just because you are super-annuated and have low insurance, doesnt mean you can come on here acting like you are really responsible...

For gods sake... I need say one word... Nurburgring ;-)

:D

you are just the same...

now gentlemen not that im blagging etc but at least im doing the normal thing and working my way up considering i started on £15,000 only two years ago i aint doing bad.

Deano :)

I was only joking.....

If we are talking about how much we earn then let me tell you.

I earn about £10000, however I get paid a bit more!

Dont set your heart on a Jap car! Think European and you wont go far wrong. I actually hate Jap cars.

Cars in Profile!

Bit late on this thread but....

Worked in some form since i was 15 (paper round etc etc)
Worked part time for about a year and a half now, inbetween going to school/sixth form.
Bought my car for £2000 MYSELF
Payed £995 insurance MYSELF
Taxed the beastie MYSELF
Havent needed and MOT yet, but will pay for it MYSELF
All fuel and servicing gets paid for MYSELF

I love my car and look after it well, and it annoys me to read that some people get everything paid for for them, and treat their cars like sh*t

ah well

Well, I did ring the insurance company yesterday and they said the file was with the underwriter. Why does it take so long? Can someone enlighten me?

My mrs is the main driver, i am names. Im 27, bin driving for 10 mths. The mrs is 29, driving for ......years. Insurance is still 1060 per year as she has 3 points. Some of you younguns pay less than me!!!!!!!!1

some of you seem to have it well easy, but thats good for you and makes everyone else jealous... well until you have to rely on your own.

my parents are loaded, but they have a strict moral code of not getting me anything as I work. at first i thought they were just tight, but im on my 3rd and 4th cars at the moment and have paid everything on all of them myself.

fist car was an XR2  with twin 45s and a few other bits, went like stink and I paid £800+ TPFT at 18. Then came the Fiesta Zetec-S, good car but slow and cost me £10600 and £1600 on insurance FC. After that I bought the Williams for £5000 as I didnt wanna spend much on a car this time that would be worth sweet F/A in a couple of years time and my insurance is £900 FC with breakdown. Valver insurance is paid monthly at the moment as direct line are crap and wont give me my 4 years no claims on my second car... Elephant next year or traders policy me thinks... need more cars and am saving for a Skyline R33 V-Spec at the moment, but have had a slight hitch at the moment financially. all these I have paid for but do live at home, but rent is £200 and then theres sky TV, broadband, phone etc etc etc. some of you dont know how lucky you are! lol
