Should I get a new car

  clio williams, Ph1 172

Ive been thinking about maybe selling my 16v and maybe getting something else. The only thing putting me off is that I have spent loads on mine and am scared if i buy another I might have the same trouble again.

I was maybe thinking of a very late N plate 16v with really low mileage such as 40k on it (if there are any!) or maybe a williams.

Or maybe a williams. Keep seeing ones about for about £4-£5k quite tempting.

Might have to wait a few months yet though.

Whats everyone think? Bit reluctant to sell mine as its a decent one I think and its got factory leather etc.

No point selling yours as you could end up spending the same on another 1. I thought about this as i fancied a phase 2 but I spent loads on mine in the last yr and could end up doing the same on a slightly newer 1.

Keep it

Dont sell it. I got to the point a year or so ago when the amount of time/effort/dosh that my 16v was taking really made me want to sell it. But after another few jobs were done, the car has been perfect ever since and has given me more trouble-free miles at circa 90-100k miles than my 1.2 did at 30-40k miles.

16vs do need a bit of love, but when all the jobs are done, you can just enjoy it. Just look at cars like MatBrowns old 16v (now in the hands of AdiClio16v?). All my car seems to need these days is petrol, oil and polish.

Itll be the same story whether you buy another 16v or a Willy; theyll need work eventually.

It all pays off (in the end!):

Yeah stick with the Valver mate

Else you will just have the bills again. Even after having to replace the engine I wouldnt sell mine!

Im scared of things going wrong though. She is pretty low mileage but cos its old its starting to get a bit tatty here and there. they are quite fragile too.

I think if i get a proper mint job on the paintwork ill be happy. Anyone local to sheffield who can do me some good paintwork?

I have had some done but I am not happy. Bits of lacquer peeling and its just far from perfect. Come on someone, make me have a reason to keep it :D

Well Im gonna see this lad tomorrow who painted my boot and roof. He hasnt made a right good job. If he can sort it I might not need it doing. Just got a few bits of lacquer on the roof peeling slightly. dunno what can be done about it. worried it will get worse. Painters never do a good enough job for me. Im never happy!

Not sure. Probably be around the £5k mark. Be a few months down the line, but Ive never managed to keep a car for more than 9 months so no doubt within the next 6 months!!!
