Should this duct be connected?

I'm changing my battery just now and I'm fairly sure this duct is for the acoustic valve right? So is it ok to bin it and leave it like this?

It connects from the air of to just below the headlight. Bloody bugger to get back in though

Yeah it's not really needed mate. There are two yes. One at the right hand side of the airbox and one at the front. Apparently not really jeeded

Was thinking about this myself, as mine is there, but looks wedged into the car in such a way that it's pinched and doesn't look correct at all.
Will have to check whether it's connected to this acoustic valve, or whether it's still there!
There are indeed two pipes going into the airbox, but they enter below the filter, so would assume there's no downside in terms of engine wear, and given it's called an "acoustic valve" almost certainly implies it's about noise, or to perhaps quieten it down. Some swotting up looks like it's connected to a vacuum line, so probably opens up for more noise and air when you're giving it the beans.
Thus, I'd assume not having them would perhaps give more an induction rasp throughout. Probably should keep the one connected to the underside though as that ends up in front of the battery, so cooler air.
