Started the decade fairly sensibly with a Mondeo ST (diesel unfortunatley) and an excess of contrast in Photoshop. Great family bus and not too bad to drive either.

2013-08-26-11-48-33.jpg

Replaced with an Audi A3 TDI 184. Not the most exciting of cars but decent torque and economy and an amazing sound system.

DSC00510.jpg

Once we moved house and I was a lot closer to work I could finally justify going back to petrol with a Golf 7R:

DSC01809a.jpg

After that thought I'd better finally scratch the Renault itch with an RS250. Didn't last all that long though thanks to an errant deer...

IMG-20191022-160852.jpg

Which finally puts in in the Fez ST. A few mods and it's a real pocket rocket. Only downside at the minute is that the kids can't buckle themselves in the back so it's a bit of a faff when the family heads out in it:

IMG-20191028-142353a.jpg

No plans to replace it at the minute but am thinking the next decade will probably end up featuring some bigger cars as the kids grow up and we end up having to cart bikes / hockey kits etc. about the place so probably looking at things like i30Ns, Octavia VRSs etc.

I looked at a couple of these before I bought my 172. Always had a certain appeal. The seats were lovely. The two I looked at were dogs though.

That looks lovely in red on prets. I wish I'd gone for those wheels on mine, but couldn't justify the expense on a lease. The Cadiz wheels are awful.

Powerwise, about the same. ~350BHP with bolt ons and a map.

Over and above my old one, it has:
  • RS Turbo, titanium bits, faster spool
  • RS Steering rack, 2.1 instead of 2.6
  • RS Rear diff, no AYC
  • Cage, 6 point SD bolt in
  • Stripped
  • Lovely Recaro RS-G Ralliart embroidered seats
  • Most importantly, it's still white underneath

Sounds nice. Just needs a Motorsport UK passport and to be used as intended then ;)

I had mine for about 8 years couldn't part with it so I had it till it died. I think it was more the memories i had in the car than the car itself but it never let me down no matter how I treated it. I'd buy another one if they weren't so silly priced

  A terrible one
Start of the decade, the trusty, reliable, super fun 172
A9D11E22-E2F8-44DB-9585-B5A78444CD02.jpeg

replaced that with this:
10886B9F-E2AF-4984-8077-9E5E04CD2AF8.jpeg

Was the most capable, fun, dynamically incredible car. To me it was my dream car but...unfortunately being made redundant forced a change which brings me up to date:
073A4061-F2F8-49E8-A590-3961E9F55451.jpeg

My brother was going to trade this in for £250. I could have it for free. Had 8 days MOT left so picked it up, fixed the long list of ailments and put it back on the road over the next few months. It’s a diabolical but the kids enjoy it.

I can't be bothered posting pics...

In the last decade...
- Owned 7 Suzuki's
- 3 MX-5's
- 2 Fiesta's
- 1 Civic
- 1 Megane
- 1 Leon
- 5 Nurburgring trips
- A lot of trackdays
- 10yrs of Curborough membership
- 1yr of competing

I've probably missed a load of stuff out, but it's been a busy decade car-wise.

All my old photos are on Photobucket and it won't let me sign in at the moment! So some images taken from Google Photos...

2010: Punto GT3, worst car I've ever owned! Quite fun when it worked, which was about 10% of the time.

4411bdaa31b45093f46403a43e76a76e.jpg

2011: Renault 5 GT Turbo, dream car for me as I'd wanted one for years. Just too unreliable for a daily. I'll have another one day though! Sold this for a grand which pains me now considering how much they go for!

gt_turbo_052.jpg

2012: Impreza STI PPP, this was a wee beasty. So expensive to run though, couldn't stand it after a while! Always felt too big for me too lol, I'm used to pocket rockets! This ended up being sold to someone in Finland.

subaru-impreza-wrx-sti-16082014-200056.jpg

2012-2015: Clio 182, what can I say! The car that bought me back here (my second one) first car I kept for over a year! Loved it and had a lot of fun. First ever time on track etc. :)

6096915923_de0d60519f_b.jpg

2015-2020: Mini Cooper S, kept this one even longer! Great car, but it's going up for sale next month. Time for something new (and I can't fit my two kids in the back!)

2018-10-28_03-28-54.jpg

Had that a couple of years and wanted a change in 2010.. picked up a classic UK Turbo 2000 Impreza wagon which I'd wanted since I was about 15.

Had been fiddled with and was running about 330hp.

2018-12-15_08-47-29.jpg

Loved it, and hated it...

That was messing about so I bought the mintest lowest mileage 172 I could find while it got fixed, again:

2018-12-15_08-47-08.jpg

While I had that, I bought a mint standard Impreza and swapped a few bits over from the green one that I sold as a rolling shell with engine.

2018-12-15_08-46-37.jpg

Had that a couple of years and ended up looking like this..

2018-12-15_08-43-01.jpg

Ended up buying a house and deciding to become less of a noisy chav so I bought Daniel's old BMW off Tim...

2018-12-15_08-41-52.jpg

Also bought a Sunflower to track for fun. Did a couple years of trackdays in that.

Had the BMW about 2 years and was doing well at work.. Craig bought it off me (eventually) and I upgraded to a modern German Impreza...

IMG_20181123_142345-01.jpeg

Didn't really get on with that until it went to Germany in winter, where it all made sense at 150+ on the autobahn, with many crates of beer in the boot.

IMG_20180121_133204.jpg

Two years on and it went for a diesel Bini Clubman which brings us up to 2020.

IMG_20190518_124652.jpg

It's not until I thought I'd add to this thread that I realised what mixed bag I've had over the last decade. I get the train to work so I don't actually need a car - what am I saying, of course I need a car just it can be one that doesn't have to be a daily driver, so economy isn't really a big factor.

First start with a family wagon and a worked over MGTF track car
2010s-01.JPG

2010s-02.JPG

Changed the family wagon for something more sensible - A4 Avant Quattro
2010s-03.JPG

Then persuaded the other half that the A4 would be a good car for her new commute and sold the MGTF, which allowed me to move on to the Cayman S
2010s-04.JPG

Whilst fun, getting back into mountin biking and the Cayman wasn't really viable, plus it's a 2 seater so even a weekend swap back to the A4 didn't work for the other half and our two girls. Cooper S Clubman seemed to be the ticket and while fun, it proved to be just a bit too small.
2010s-05.JPG

So, back to an A4 as the over half had also swapped the original A4 for something else. At this time the 172 Cup came along too.
2010s-06.JPG

2010s-07.png

Unfortunately, the A4 developed some significant issues so it had to go, the other half now has a C-Class Estate and with a 17 year old daughter ( no :devilish: ) I've recently acquired a Mini Cooper D as a learner car, bike transport, general run about to sit next to the Cup on the drive.

What happened to the RX7?
I intended to start getting into track racing (bit overkill for a first rwd car) but instead bought a house. Had the Z4M, Impreza and the RX7 taking up the drive so one had to go. If I continued driving it like I was doing it would have killed me as well. 🤣

My list is a bit less extensive than some on here but here goes.

My vehicles-

Iceburg 172, shouldn't have sold it but really wanted a 182
Arctic blue 182 both cup packs, again should have kept it as it was immaculate.
Yamaha YZF R125
SV650S
Caddy trendline, boring but useful
Triumph Daytona 675
Flame Red 172

Family cars-
Grand Scenic
Tiguan 4motion

What am I doing wrong? My current Flame Red is by far the least tidy of all of my Renaultsports but in a way I love it for that reason, dont need to be quite so precious over it and it only gets better as i work on it.

Bought this new in 2010. Technically it was the wife's a I had a company van!

Image0580.jpg

They started stripping the 200 on the drive until I disturbed them. The wife was paranoid that they would come back so it was sold and replaced with the first 182

DSCF4102.JPG

I bought this to play with, it was the 3.2 V6 one.
ianboom - Copy.jpg

Had the CIvic briefly, but I couldn't hack the lack of power!
Image0964.jpg

Bought a 200 cup in Nimbus, but can't find a photo of it. I sold it to my lad and replaced it with this 350Z, bit of a let down car. It was heavy and massively impracticable, you couldn't fit sod all in the boot as there was a massive strut across it!
20140831_182845.jpg

The a 172, this was my daily and the 350Z was for weekends.
20140831_094117.jpg

Changed jobs and bought this. Great car, but yellow trim?? It used to torque steer really badly.
20150525_101811.jpg

Had this on PCP. It was a diesel, should've hung on to it, but kept it a year.
20150725_181759.jpg

Replace it with a Titanium X, think I must have been feeling my age!

Built this, done 1300 miles in 3 years!
IMG_20170610_103347.jpg

Bought a white Jag XFS 3.0 diesel. Was a great car, but horrendously expensive to run as there was always something wrong with it! Sold it but the wife wanted this
IMG_20190330_173726264.jpg

So I ended up with her old car. We've had it 2 years and it's up to 139k

The Clio was 10 months old and the Fiesta 9 months old, the attempted thefts were 7 years apart.
I live in Solihull, car crime is rife over here at the moment. Obviously the result of living in an affluent area 😁
Current trend is car jacking or breaking in and stealing keys, but the cars they go after at the moment are Audis, BMWs and Merc's, that's why I'm happy with the 182!!

There are more than i’ll list but off the top of my head on daily duties (inc company cars) were -

E46 touring 330d msport
VW transporter 5.1 180bhp highline (brand new)
Passat GTE estate (hybrid is the way forwards)
F11 530D touring msport (current daily car)
Mini clubman cooper D (Mrs car)
X-5 2011 3.0d (Mrs car)
Mini Countryman (Mrs current car)

But the three fun cars to use the same number plate were -

4330C6AF-E7AE-4279-9A36-8A415F32DDD4.jpeg

94 TVR 4.0 chimaera - the only car to make me smile just by starting it (V8!). Took my eldest out in it when he was 4 months old and then decided to sell it as I didn’t want to kill him going sidewards into a tree with effectively fibreglass as projection.

799072BA-BE22-4261-80C5-0A96115CA007.jpeg

Brand new focus ST2 - I always dreamed of owning a fast blue ford. What a let down. Car was good but in the first year it broke down 6 times. More of a concern was I never experience so much hate and road rage in a car. They live up to their image. I always thought there was a chance it would go missing in the night.

EB6845B3-B7F8-439D-9D90-80522EE505B9.jpeg

The Clio - still with me and will be possible into the next decade. Was meant to be a cheap short term track car but 4 years later it owes me so much time and money. I’ll never get that back so it stays!
