If youre willing to risk the possibility of them finding out and the policy being voided, you dont have to tell them anything. But if you do that, sods law will come into play - sods law. :)

if you have an accident your insurance company check with DVLA BEFORE paying out, thus if you have points it WILL be come apparent and not tempting fate, But you will get SOD ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In my opinion better to be safe than sorry, although people will take risks to save a few pennys.
