I want a thing that I can charge my laptop / camcorder up on, that doesnt weigh much - IE - I need a socket in my glovebox or something...

can I do this?

Get the cigarette lighter adapter for both, dont waste your time with an inverter.

yeah, inverter would drain your battery pretty quick with the engine off, and the devices you said will only be converting the 240 back down to 12v dc again anyway.
