Sit and Swivel

  NIMBUS RS200FF
Ok... just having a bit of a gripe and looking for some experienced heads to lay it on the line for me:

Having had almost every conceivable part of the front end changed/checked to try and solve the new mystery knocking coming from the n/s front, I now know what the issue has been all along.
it's the swivel hub joint.
This was suggested when I had a lurch when turning right, but following new rack bushes and tires, it seemed fine.

I know this is a common one, but what sort of experiences have you guys had with getting these changed by your local mechanics?
My guys have sat scratching their heads/arses for a couple of days, have only just managed to source the parts from Renault direct and have now said it's not likely to get done until Thursday/Friday as "it's a pig of a job".

These same guys took 3 weeks to fit konis to my mx5, for what it's worth.
have I just lumbered myself with a bunch of morons or is this really a tricky job that's likely to cost me a f*ckton in labour costs?
In a bit of a bind as it's too dangerous to drive it home to my preferred mechanic so having to use these guys as they're close to work...

oh - and they've said it's going to cost me £280+vat+labour "at least"

thoughts?

This is why I tend to do most of the work on my car myself these days.

Can i ask what is meant by the swivel hub joint?

Is it referring to the bottom ball joint on the hub? If so you've just been royally shafted

No it's not, it's a complete unit the 197/200 run a different hub set up to 1*2s.

A complete unit from if bought from Renault yes, but there are places that repair them now with new ball joints for considerably less!

It will have just been the bearings in the lower swivel hub, probably £80 per side parts and labour.

Very common on the Meganes which run the same setup.
Yep. this is what it was - She's my daily driver and I didn't have the time or inclination to either have her towed up to Derby (from Ascot) to a specialist or have the swivel hub off and leave her on stands while a refurb is done.
I have just bought and taken delivery of a refurb'd offside so I can swap that out when i get the chance.
Came out with delivery at just shy of £110 so already a saving.
