Sky+ Installation...fuckwits!

Upgraded to Sky+

Nice bloke comes out. He seems really rushed, tells me he has only just started and he needs to do 6 installs today.

I say great. Go and make him a cup of tea.

He starts drilling. Bang....

Water pissing out all over the new wooden floor.

I switch off the drain down the central heating. Not panicked, these things happen I say.

Finishes install. Plugs in box. Doesn't work.

Tries another box, tells me its the viewing card. Phones sky and they are sending a new one. Leaves the telly/sky box all pulled out. Dust from the drilling all over the wet floor

Go check next doors garden as he had to use their patio for access. Mud and dust all over their very swanky slate patio. Lucky they are out so I wash it down. This is the bit I'm most pissed at cos that reflects bad on me. Neighbors have been great to us. The last thing I want to do is upset them.

What should I/would you do? I'm going to get a very expensive plumber out to sort out the pipe. Wall probably needs digging out.

So I have no sky, no heating and I've had to take a day off work for this! ffs! Not happy.

I wouldn't be impressed, I hate incompetent workers. Especially when your paying for the privlidge! You should have taken photos of next doors patio. Make sure you get some of inside before you tidy it all backup. You never know you might get a couple of free months!

Yeah I'd phone and complain, I'd want them to be footing the bill for the plumber as its their engineer who caused the damage.

Bloody hell. They're getting paid to do that. Thats their job! You dont expect any of that hassle or sh*t! Definitely phone them up. Say the guy was sound and everything, but it reflects bad on you, especially as you've just had the floor done and the wood could swell etc. Bah.

They came out to put mine in and the engineer dropped his hammer in the middle of the laminated floor putting a dent in it. I decided to let it go.

6 months later when we had some bad weather the bit on front of the dish (LNB?) came off because it hadn't been screwed on, I called and asked if they could send a screw and they flatly refused stating it would be £60 for an engineer.... at that point I realised I should have claimed for the repair.

Don't let them off lightly, they won't do you any favours..

That's the problem. They're not engineers. They're not technicians. They're monkeys. My mate fits alarm systems for a living. I'm sure he'd struggle to wire a plug.

Why is everyone who uses tools an Engineer these days? AAAAAaggggggghhhhhhhh!!!!! lol

Sorry for the rant but I, along with many others, didn't go through 5 years of on the job and college/university education to be an Engineer/Technician so we can be put in the same bracket as people who drill holes in walls and plug in co-ax.

And if you ever need to get anything repaired on your Sky system, refuse to pay the fee and say you'll cancel because you can't afford to fork out £60. They'll chop it down to to £30 straight away and when you refuse that they say "Well how about for free?". Your contract is worth more to them than the £60 for some rough arse chimp to come out and swap your LNB, and you can use that to your advantage.

i had my sky+ installed but a complete moron, he left dust every where, cable unfixed, and it took him about an hour, multiple systems resets, 3 sky boxes, until he thought about changed the LNB.

Yup. Me being special needs forgot to take pictures. So should have. I just wanted to get next door sorted out. Dont know if they ever come home for lunch etc.

Plumber is coming out today. 44.50 + VAT for every half hour. lol I'm so glad I aint paying it!

Problem is most of em are sub contracters who do stuff for sky.

Recently had it installed at ours, guy did a resonable job however i did tell him just to shove it through the wall and leave me with enough cable so i can route it myself. Also it took him 2 boxes to get it working.

Seemed like an ok guy, however instead of drilling he poked the second calbe through the NTL hole, chopped the NTL cable off meaning no NTL anymore for the downstairs. not like im fussed but can at least put it as a good point for resale.

i work for sky and it sounds like you got a bad engineer was he in a sky van with sky plastered all over it?
dont think is fair to call us all monkeys tho i have never had any damage claims or complaints.
did he check the wall before he drilled with his pipe and metal detector?

I am getting Sky+ tomorrow! Already have Sky Tv, but want to be able to record stuff.. all the drilling and wiring has already been done the last time about 6 years ago, so will it just be a matter of changing the box?

You need two cables. Standard sky only has one

No he was a sub contractor. Nope he didnt check. If he contiuned throught the wall level he would have missed the pipes. He drilled at an angle.

Anyways, its all sorted out now. His company are paying the £330 plumbing costs.

I still cant use the system as the viewing card they sent doesnt work. I should get this in the next 5 days.

Spoke to skys complaints and they are starting the ball rolling. No joy on getting anything out of them! Not even a suggestion of free sports for 6 months :dapprove:

Just got to wait to see if the flooring warps due to the water that pissed out on it.

the guy who came and installed my sky was really good.

he checked where he was drilling with a metal/electricity detector, and the work was tidy.

Viewing card was in the post today. Fair play for them getting it to me that quick. All up and running.

Sky+ seems very good. I like the live pause thingy. Loads already in the planner to record.

Much better than buying a dooooovd recorder IMO.

Live pause is great. I paused Prison Break to go to the take away last week! lol

Live pause is good, as is being able to record and series link programs. Which is handy as I work shifts. Trouble is I have about 30 hours of tv to catch up on. Which means I have to record all this weeks programs as well.

Its a vicious circle I tell you.
