Sluggish and hesitant 172

  Ph2 172
Hi guys,

Having a bit of a problem with the oild 172. Recently its sluggish and hesitant when I apply any acceleration. Almost as if theres a lag at times. My friend also has a 172 and he was driving mine and noticed a big difference. It is worse when its cold but this hesitancy is there all the time.

Any body any ideas? Sensor on its ay out somewhere?

Cheers

Could be a number of things mate, im not gonna insult your intelligence that you know the car obviously needs optimum tempature before the car can be driven hard or fast...

So it could be one of these...

If the car feels lacking in power then it could be firing on 3 cylinders in which case it could be the Coil pack, HT leads or the spark plugs.

If you floor it and feel nothing then other times it "goes fast" almost like its flat spotting (lacking in power for short bursts?) Then it could be that.

Any half decent mechanic will tell you this, i had the same problem a few weeks ago.

Hope this helps matey!

Cheers, Ill have a look at those. Yeah I always let it heat up properly before it ever gets any stick but its just really lumpy.

you think maybe coolant temp sensor and crank position sensor?

Theres a possibility it could be the oxygen sensors (there are 2)

A diagnostic check might be on order mate, avoid renault if you can find a reputable garage (they wanted £56 for an hours work ffs)
