Sluggish peformance in 172

  RRover Sport HST, clio 19
I had a new centre section of the exhaust fitted to my GFs' 172 about a month ago now, and she is complaining that the car just doesnt feel the same, now the exhaust has been bedded in. The exhaust was from Renault so it should be the same spec as the one that was taken off. It also seems really loud, not in a deep throaty loudness, but a rough loudness, if that makes sense.

Could an exhaust make a difference in performanceor could it be a crap exhaust..?

I'd check [or get Renault to check] that the joint to the cat is properly fitted and sealed if necessary and also that the joint with the back box is mated correctly.

Could be blowing from one of those joints which could cause loss of back pressure and hence, sluggish performance. Certainly will cause the extra noise youre talking about!

Is it a genuine Renault supplied by Renault? If its a Kwik-fit jobbie, they're not genuine, although they look similar. People on here have had them and said they're noisy.

Cheers - the exhaust was from Renault, as no after market place like kwik fit sell them. The CAT wasnt replaced, just the back box and centre pipe leading to the CAT. Must admit, after driving it tonight, it seems shite compared with what it used to be like.

I have been reading old forums on here, and it seems anything other than a std Renault or stainless one ( which the GF didnt want as the only ones locally would hang under the bumper, and she thinks they look max powerish ) arent the same..

You can get equivalents from some Kwik-fit style places but they're few and far between. I think a girl on her called Claire[?] had one fitted and she thought it was noisy about the same time as I had my Powerflow stealth fitted.

They're only guaranteed for 12 months so i suggest getting straight back to Renault and tell them youre not happy. Could just be the fit of the centre pipe into the back box. May need a bit of paste and clamping a bit tighter?

The Renault ones arent cheap, so make a fuss. My stainless cat back was only £230 all in fitted. Lifetime guarantee;)
