Smoke & Dead powersteering!

  Clio 182
Hi there, first post here.

I recently picked up a 182 and I've done a fair bit of driving in it.

Today I was driving to work in Hertfordshire from home in Suffolk, I ran out of washer fluid so I stopped at BP in Colchester and didn't notice anything untoward there.

I continued down the A12 and round the M25, all the way to the gates of my uncles house where I got out to put the code in, when I turned back to look at the car there was smoke coming out from under the bonnet on the RHS (LHS if your looking at the car from the front)

I thought oh **** and drove it inside out of the way of the gates (10-15m) I also noticed that the power steering wasn't working.

I turned the car off and waited for the smoke to disappear before opening in the bonnet.

Immidieately to the left of the engine there is a silver pipe which connects to a black hose (I'll take a pic in daylight) and I notice that the immediate area around there was wet with fluid and on the silver portion of the pipe there was a white foamy fluid.

Any Ideas what It could be?

Thanks

Sounds like a PAS hose has blown or the aux belt has snapped and took a piece of a pipe with it. Need pics really though buddy but bad form it happening this close to Christmas.

How much are the pipes to fix? Fortunately I've got alternative transport until whenever, I've left the car in hertfordshire, I was looking forward to some nice drives over the break, are there any good specialist dealers in Hertfordshire? I can trailer the car over so distance isn't a huge issue.

I think Fred or Danny are closest to you from that part of the world as i'm in Nottingham.

Pipes aren't cheap to replace or repair (new) but if you can identify the one you need there are loads breaking on here so would be a cheaper and safer alternative to fixing yours. Have you confirmed/denied te aux belt and pulley run condition yet?

  Dodgy one
I took my pipe to pirtek and hqd a piece knocked up just using then ends, so far so good, i think its been on 2 years now.

  DON'T SEND ME PM'S!!
Silver pipe will be aircon. Could well be a belt gone and taken it out, as said, which would explain pas being dead
