RB 182 Cup,E46 M3 CS
Hi all
Very pleased to say I went out and bought my first ever Renault yesterday and actually thinking about it my first ever hot hatch. It is an 05 Clio 182 cup in racing blue. Just over 59,000 miles on it, all belts and dephaser done by the garage selling the car (renaultsport specialist). I was looking for a 182 FF but the low mileage, rarity and colour were big draws plus the work carried out. I'm sure many people here have an opinion on the 182 Cup! I thought about it quite a bit and as the car is just an occasional runabout for me I'm quite happy to forego the extra spec on the regular 182s.
Good points: Bodywork is in pretty good condition, a few paint chips and some very fine scratches from where it has been washed badly but otherwise looks great. Wheels have just been refurbished and whilst I'm not sure it is OEM the finish is good. New tyres all round, budget on the back and rainsports on the front which is good enough for me. Oil service and new discs on the front too. Drives well, tracks straight, brakes straight, engine strong. Heating and air condition works.
Bad points: Interior is tired, which is not unexpected but I was hoping for better in a low mileage car.
-The heating controls panel is flaking badly and it looks rubbish. What can I do about this, is it easily replaceable? The garage mentioned people spraying them in various colours but I want to keep the car OEM. (pictures attached)
-The stereo works intermittently. Sometimes I get sound from the radio, sometimes there is silence even though the display says a station is tuned. This was noticed at the garage and they gave me an aftermarket head unit. I'd prefer to keep it OEM as before, is it just a case of getting a replacement head unit?
-The washer jets are temperamental. Again, this was noticed at the garage and something was replaced whilst I was dealing with paperwork. It worked at first but then when I tried to use the front washer the fluid would come out at the rear only. Then occasionally even though the motor was apparently working there was no fluid at all. Apparently it is some sort of switch that can stick? That was what was replaced apparently but the fault still occurs. Again, help appreciated because I know this is probably an MOT failure item, and very annoying over winter.
-The glovebox is looser on the driver side of it and rattles when driving. Easy fix?
The last big thing is the exhaust. I could tell it needed replacing and the garage had confirmed it was on the original exhaust. It can still pass an MOT but looks like the passenger side exhaust pipe is hanging lower and I can see plenty of rust as well. Apparently replacing it is expensive and most get a Milltek instead, any thoughts?
It looks like a great little car and already it is proving to be a hoot. It is much easier to steer around town and in traffic than my other car so I'm properly pleased with it. The weather is looking good for at least some of the week upcoming so I'm hoping to get some decent pictures. Unfortunately I'm not particularly mobile being 6 weeks post acl-reconstruction op so I can't get a full detail in for a while to really bring the best out of that paint.
Happy to be a member of the forum too and already learnt plenty about these great little cars
