If it going through insurance, depending on who you are with it'll get sent to whoever they like - some insurance companies will give you the option when you take out cover to have be able to choose where it is fixed, or you can get the cheapo insurers who only let you take it to an 'approved repairer' which in my expereince have been shite - I now pay the extra £12 knowing if it needs work it will get done at a decent shop.

Always worth asking when u phone up to make the claim if you get to chose where it goes?

i just got mine back from bodyshop, i was making claim against guy who hit me through his insurance and i got it into the bodyshop i wanted so you can choose, i wouldnt mention you have another car and ask them for a hire car

If you weren't at fault, you should be able to wangle a hire car paid for by the other party's insurance anyway.

like I said it depends on who you are with, I had an R5 Turbo years back that got rammed by a German truck driver. I was with Performance Direct and they wouldn't allow me to take it to preferred place in Woking as they quoted too high. They ended up making me go to this place just outside Guildford on the A3 (as you are from that way you probably know it) just before the Hogsback turn off. They made a right mess of it, I moaned and they offered to do it again, whcih they did, but it was still very poor.

Thats the thing, i know its just going to end up a s**t job unless i go some where that i know is good

Hope all mods are declared mate...

Looks like the PH1 could be getting pulled apart if it comes to it.. surely though as it was parked - not moving - not even my fault it should not be an issue as its not my insurance company that has to pay out?

ah gutted for you mate, I have a family friend with a bodyshop based in walton on the hill, they did my 182 for me and you would never know that some silly bint scuffed the bumper!..Very trustworthy, all sensible guys there that you can be assured wont rag your car around.
You are allowed to take your car wherever you see fit to have it repaired, most people arent aware, however working in insurance and knowing someone with a bodyshop I am well aware!

if its the other guys insurance there is nothing to worry about re mods, if you need to verify his insurance details pm me his reg and will have it checked on monday morning for you

Well his insurance company will be looking for a way to get out of paying, they will most likely send an assesor out to have a look at the car... He will be on a commission based salary and will get a nice payout from the insurance companies if he can find a way for them to wriggle their way out of paying.

;) put her back to standard for the moment matey... you wouldnt want to be declined insurance in years to come and have the 4x4 driving f*ckwits damage repaired at your expense!

Is that recent legislation about taking your car anywhere? In 99 when I claimed with Performance Direct they refused as they said the price quoted at my preferred garage was over their write off threshold, but as the car could be repaired for less elsewhere at under that threshold they made me take it somewhere they nominated.

I'm also curious to know how Tesco et al can offer that as an option if I can do it anyway?

wrong mate, if claim is through the third parties insurers they cant get involved in any indemnity issues, did the mods cause the accident? no! only way mods would be involved would be if he looks to claim through his own insurers and then it would only be if they contributed to the index accident.

So they can void it then? surely not as i'm not in the wrong :S

Sorry should add a bit more. Those are the people that fixed my car when someone ran into it.

Don't need to pay any excess, choose the repair centre you want. And get a similar performance car while yours is being fixed.

Great service. I wouldn't hesitate to use them if anything happened.

Believe me mate, "independent" vehicle assessors are mercyless b@stards when it comes to their work. They will find some way of getting out of paying...probably something along the lines of "the damage wouldn't be as bad if it wasnt lowered" or some bollucks like that.
Think of how his insurers will react, to them James has witheld information that would give them an excuse to charge him a higher premium, as if they are going to act on his behalf!

If you ever want to know how it works, think of the money as your own and act like a c*nt ;)

Just wished the t**t had looked where he was going

I know silvers a bad one to match & i will always know its there :dapprove:

Right just spoke to the guy, he would prefer to do it outside of insurance, as would i! what do you reckon the cost would be?

Bare in mind i do a fair bit of car detailing, so i'm pretty sure i can sort the wing/bumper out, just would be the door, how much do they go for?
