Someone just hit my car :-(

b*****d ... just had someone go into the back of my car on the way home from work. Usual sort of muppet manoeuvre ... he pulled out of junction looking to right and didnt bother to look to the left where he was going where I was queuing in traffic :( Hes scraped my bumper so that its going to need paintwork fixing :( Worse than that, he works for the same company as me, and was driving a company car so Ill have to go thru all the pain of invoking insurance companies. Reckon private driver (like me) would have avoided insurance companies since cost of repair will be less than £150 I reckon.

However, heres the real question. I got a quote on the V6 Im planning to get early next year. When filling in that quote I could happily say that Id never had any claim / accident in the last 3 years etc.. In fact Ive never had a claim / accident in 15 years of driving. Now when re-answer the question, I have to put this accident in (since it says I have to do so regardless of blame) - damage to my car; £150; no change in my NCB. Then the b*****d quote goes up by £100. WTF!!! :(

Ive done nothing wrong; am not claiming off my insurance tho Ill need to go thru them to extract cash from the other guys company car insurers; and I get f**king stung! Am I missing the point here ... is this NOT a claim since its not against my insurers!? HELP!

its a no fault accident so shouldnt effect your insurance or no claims, and when your insurance asks if you have had a claim you say no, because you havent, just try different insurers and ring them and explain

basically the insurances company want to get a history of your driving, so any accidents - whether claimed for or not, whether it involved your own insurance company or the other persons, then they still want to know about it. so unfortunately yes you do have to declare it im afraid.

So which insurers do I contact to get my bumper fixed now? Do I get his insurers to send me a claim form ... or do I tell my insurers who send me a claim form which then ultimately gets charged back to his?

Gutted for you - that happened to me once, an old lady looking right, and not noticing the queue of traffic.

Hopefully it wont affect your insurance though - when someone backed into me at a petrol station, I had to get a door panel repaired/resprayed and it didnt affect my insurance at all.

Portsmouth drivers are so bad, Im surprised no-ones hit me yet..

If an insurance company did that to me I would ring them up and ask them on what grounds has it increased my premium. I would then tell them that they either reduce my premium or I will go elsewhere and I would carry out the threat if need be.

Now you could have gone for the old whiplash trick and tried to screw the other insurer out of money. Had you suggested that trick, many people on here would have sl*gged you off saying blah blah scroungers like you are putting up everyones premium etc. However this case is a good example of why you cant blame people for screwing the insurance for everything its worth because the insurance wont hesistate to screw you at the first opportunity.

Surely if the insurance co claims that an accident caused by this person will put YOUR premium up then you should demand that they recover the cost of the premium increase from the other drivers insurance.

inform your insurance and give them his details and they will do everything for you. Keep on their backs though, coz they WILL drag their heels.

also it wont effect your insurance costs at all. Its a non fault claim. You declare it, but it doesnt act as a black mark against u.

Hmmm ... so Ive been playing on the Admiral site some more. Even mentioning an accident with "No Claim" registered for it results in a hike of £95! b****cks to that!

Shame ... since when that "No" box is ticked the premium is a very good £645 which I dont think is bad for a brand new (theoretical) V6!

On DirectLine site ... it doesnt effect the premium. But theyre a much less competitive £840 :(

It is a no claims bonus not a no blames bonus . What is your excess on the policy would it not be cheaper just to pay and get it sorted out of your own pocket and put it down to experience and then you still have a clean driving history ...

Wont affect my NCB ... since (a) I wont be claiming against my insurance and will be recovered from other drivers and (b) its protected anyhow. However the mere act of saying that there was damage to your car affects the premium on the Admiral site ... even if you dont claim anything and werent responsible!

Sounds from everybodys replies that something is screwy with Admiral on this point. When I phone them tomorrow to get them on the case, Ill ask them whats going on.

Thanks everybody!

Gutted to hear that Andy :(

Was it on site at work? Damn company car drivers have no respect for their cars...

When my previous car was written off by white van man, I was worried it would put my premium up, but as youve found a no fault claim didnt affect it with Direct Line luckily. Hopefully Admiral will put things right on the phone.

Have you tried Privilege for a quote? Found them quite a bit cheaper than DL, might be nearer your Admiral quote if you need to go elsewhere.

Why dont you just pay to get it fixed yourself and then try and get some cash from your company? Even if it costs you £150, it might save you more than that on insurance if you get a V6, because depending on the company, you might find the premium increasing if a claim has been made. Whether or not it is your fault, you MUST notify the insurance company that you have had an incident in the past four years or whatever, when asked, otherwise if you have an accident and have to make a claim, they will not pay out and might even void your insurance. A no fault claim might not put your cost up, but they still want to know.

Dont forget that insurance companies swap information and with this incident with your bumper, if your company insurance pays for it (via other driver), your details will be noted and your own insurers will be aware of it. If you later buy a V6 and change your insurer, and do not disclose the incident irrespective of whose fault it was, the insurer will probably soon know anyway, as you will maybe have to provide evidence of no claims, so it is best to be truthful, otherwise it could cost you a fortune!

unfortunately you cannot do that - if you dont declare the claim, even though it is a no-blame claim - they will have it on the insurance database and will quote it back at you - as they did with me recently after some tw*t hit me. I have no blame whatsoever, but still aint been paid back by the insurance company for the damage repair.

Yeah ... thats the problem. On the Admiral quote system you tell it that that an "incident" occurred and the premium goes up! Even if nobody claimed anything ... the quote goes up! It doesnt ask "where you totally blameless minding your own business driving safely". Hope it can all be sorted by a phone call when I do go to do my insurance next. However, pissed off had having to tick "Yes" after 15 years of ticking "No" ...

Cheers for the counselling everybody :)

Gets worse ... just discovered the crease in my boot floor :( Was manageably grumpy about damaged bumper, but freaking body shell damage! Arghhh!!

Are you insured fully comp or tpft ? If you are tpft just ring up his insurance company and ask for a claim form and claim direct off them. Youll need to get two estimates done. It will need to declare it and your premium may go up whilst it is being sorted out but it will get adjusted back afterwards.

Full comp ... so all now in the hands of my insurers. My car is being assessed by the approved repair (who look pretty good from their website) on Monday ... and will then be fixed whilst I get a courtesy car. Will see if I can get them to sort another couple of things whilst theyve got the paint mixed ;)

Of course bad side is that until this is all sorted and claimed back from third partys insurance, that this is against my insurance and so better be all done and dusted before I get the Vee, which in turn had better be before my tax and MOT run out in 3/05.
