Spacers needed for camber bolts.

  Cup In bits
Right I know these threads get done all the time but I can't find something specific to what I want to know.

I don't have the car to hand as im working away and I would normally physically check. Im needing something ordered so I can blitz all the work when home.

I have FF 16" 5 spoke alloys with 195/45/16 tyres fitted to my 172 cup. I'm looking to find out what spacers I will need to run in order to have maximum camber with Eibach camber bolts fitted, I know its tight just now as I struggled to get the wheel straps on when putting it on my trailer.

Can anyone advise what I need as a minimum, I'm not looking for looks just enough to see the tyre clear the strut with no rubbing on the outer arches, it will also be getting sportlines fitted at the same time, I will run 15" wheels when on track but would still like to be able to run the 16" on road without altering camber/tracking.

Cheers

I found I could run max camber without any spacers on 182 alloys (On a 182 though), they have ET 45 offset. I'm not sure what wheels you have as it sounds like you don't have 172 cup speedlines ??? If the offset is higher than 40 and less than 45 then I'm pretty sure you won't need spacers to max out the eibach camber bolts

edit : I'm guessing you mean you have regular 172 alloys, which are ET48. I can imagine it may be tight but I would definately try first without buying stuff you might not need.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah it's just regular 172 wheels fitted unfortunately, I'm unsure of offset as I have never looked tbh. I'm pretty sure ill need at least 5mm spacers but ill give it a go as spacers aren't hard to find at short notice.

I *think* the 5 spoke 172 alloys are ET 48.5 if that's of any use? Cup turinis are et38.5 so I'd have said your probably better off on 10mm spacers mate. Guarantees extra clearance then as well.

What dimension tyre did/do you run Jengis??

195 45 r16 conti sportcontact (1's). Quite new at the time so not like wear was giving extra clearance or anything like that. Not sure how relavant though as, like I say, the cup struts on my 182 might be ever so slightly different, but camber was pretty extreme at around 2 and a half degrees (I didn't like it on the road like that TBH)

What camber, spacers, ride height, tyres do you run with your turinis? Do you get rubbing?

I think the struts are pretty similar tbh mate except the bolt spacing.

I run with 2.5 degrees negative camber, and as it is at the minute ridiculously low! Lol! It's on 195/45 16 hankook s1 evo's and I'm running 20mm spacers. I get rubbing on the usual culprit - the metal bracket in the front arches for the wing.

Thought it might be, I'm only fitting sportlines and want to keep all the arch liners if poss. Your rubbings probably due to you having 20mm spacers you not think?? Anywhere near the chassis leg on full lock?

Yeah rubbings caused by the spacers mate as even at the ride height it's at now you'd get a small rub, but that was only on track at high cornering speeds.
I'll be on 15" turinis soon wrapped in 205/50 15 so I'll see if/how much it rubs on them and adjust it as required. I still run arch liners as well btw.

Right that's settled then, 10-15mm spacers, 2deg ish camber, sportlines and 195/45/16 t1'r's or them evo 1's are cheap too. They have a similar tread design to conti sport's, do you rate them for road and a 7/10ths track day?

Well they are the tyres that got me around the nurburgring in 8:39 mate, so yes I rate them! In fact massively over the t1r's as I've had both. T1r's overheat really quickly on track - even at 7/10ths. The hankooks hold on a bit better and cope admirably well in the wet too.

It's been a pleasure, 5 mins has saved me around £400 in bad choices. I thought t1'rs for sheer cheapness and the car isnt really needing tyres, I just want a full set of whatever brand. I had some toyo's many moons ago on my corsa sport and thought they were good back then on a dry day minus the wear which would give indications they would overheat quickly on track.

Yeah I'm chuffed, £25 in total cheaper than I could find T1-R's and all the others on eBay are wanting £60-75 per tyre :p
