Spare Key Grrrrrr!!!!

Car  Orange 182
I bought my 182 last December and I was told that the spare key was with the previous dealer and would be sent to me the following week, this didn't happen...

After numerous calls, 4 months later I still aint got the spare key. The guy now claims that he has lost the details of the previous owner, and has asked me to try and track them down ffs.

I said if I cant contact the previous owner the key would need replacing and the cheeky bar steward has said that he will only go halves with me!

If i bought the car off him and was promised the keys, he cant go charging me money cos he aint been able to get them surely???

Anyway, I rang 2 dealers and got 2 prices for spares: £120 and £180 :S

Anyone know which is correct?

...aaaaaaaand relax.

Dont back down, you should have 2 spare keys, one which is a fob and one which is just a normal key.

If they can't get the spare key- ask them to change the locks as you don't want a spare key hanging around that you don't have "control" of

Did you buy the car private or through a dealer?

Private, I think you're screwed.

Dealer, then kick off as they should give you a spare key. My 172 came with one key but they supplied and coded a new key free of charge.

I bought it from a trader (Graham Walker). Dunno if this leaves me in the same situation as buying from a main stream dealer. I'm still going to kick off tho. He just took me by surprise today, cheeky fook.

He did pay for two keys and it's two late now, but unless they give you both keys with the car, you have to assume they don't have the other key.

Never accept a car with promises of "we'll post this thing on to you" albeit spare keys, service history or tax disc. Don't accept the car until they give you the things they said they would!

Well the garage told me that the car only came with one key, so whether the owner didn't hand it over to the garage I'm not sure. Seemed a bit strange to me at the time.. the deal was done by that time however.

I wouldnt be happy at the thought there was another key for my motor somewhere else tbh.

Yeah i'd go mental, if they said they were going to send it then they are in the wrong at the end of the day.
