speaker polarity help

I read on the forum somewhere that you must conect the speakers to the wires the correct way round or they will sound guff!

How do I know what the correct way round is there is nothing marked on the speakers other than one contact is large the other is small.

To make matters worse the wires on the clio arnt even the same colour on each side.

I tried them both ways and they sounded the same.

Help pease. D

I think the larger one of the two is the plus and the small the negative. Personally if you have new speakers i would run new better wires, but it wont make a huge difference until you turn it loud of have lots of bass.

I read the same thing and sorted mine out and it did sound much better, but then i have got mine all amped up and everything so i noticed a difference.

Its called out of phase and it sounds like your speakers are farting when you have heavy bass.

Just get a AA battery and some wire, hook the battery up to the speaker and watch the cone, it will move in a bit or out a bit, repeat with the others and make sure you wire them all up the same.

no, but as long as its the same on both sides youl be fine!
Not if they are coaxial or have an in built crossover.

Basically connect them up if they sound pants change them round and see if it makes a different, I cant remember off the top of my head which is which.

If you are replacing the standard speakers then look inside the connector on the speaker and it should be marked which pin is +ve

why do you say that? ive fliped the phase on caxials before(trying to gain mid bass) and they have been fine, the only difference is the cone is moving in the opposite direction, the strange sound comes from when one speaker s out of phase witha nother and bass cancelations going on (unless the internal xovers are setup in a way i don;t understand - which is more than possible!!)

easiest way is to use the balance control on the HU

if your speakers are correctly wired up then if you fade to the right only your right speaker will be on, fade to left only the left speaker should be on

when speakers are out of phase, you will normally only get the bass distorted/cancelled
