Speakers

Im thinking of simply changing the speakers in the doors and back. Can I just stick in four 4 full range coax speakers and hear a decent difference?

Or whats the minimum recomended...I dont want to install an amp really.

if you want to keep a fairly simple install, i would recomend changing the standard head unit first, then u can buy direct replacements for the standard speakers, dont think they are 4" though, more like 5 1/4 "? double check that though

Standard front speakers are awful. Make sure you change them first with a decent pair of 13cm Coaxials or a good set of components. Infinity and Focals are popular choices.

Forget the back ones as youll hardly hear them if you have a decent set of fronts.

Whats the effect of changing the fronts for full range speakers? What effect does this have on the tweeters? Wont I have 4 tweeters??

Thanks...I know theres loads of stuff on this but not speficically on the front combination ie tweeters and full range.

You have to give them a good tug. I tend to pop the tops out with a screwdriver then pull it with your hands. Dont want to put the screwdriver through the speaker now do you!

Got the buggers off. They are indeed 5 speakers. So just one question. Can I put full range speakers in the front and will that effect the tweeters in the dash.

The bloke from Halfords has just grunted at me....not sure hes actually alive or whether its the mould on him that makes him move.

Putting full range in wont affect the tweeters. You can put coaxials in and leave the tweeters, or you can put components in and disconnect the tweeters.

All up to you really. Dependent on how they sound with your new speakers.

halfords are doing 2 way infinities for 60 note really good sound will fit all u need to do is either get converters as the stock speakers have plugs or just cut them of and put on spade conectors to suit

Thanks. Infinities it is, me thinks. And thanks for the info on tweeters and two way combination.

I know its boring for you lot but it s info you can rely on rather than some info from some bloke from Halfords (Im being kind calling him bloke)

Youll definitely notice the difference straight away with the Infinitys.

I noticed the other day while I was in Halfords that they have some very cheap 4" speakers (rears) at decent RMS ratings. Only bother if you like plenty of rear fill to your sound though.

I cant even get the bloody grillls off without fear of damaging plastic!
Hehe, oh dear oh dear... brings back memories of the summer.. if your finding doing that a chore then you better stop right now and get a pro to do it!... You wait till you have to feed new wire from inside the car to the new door speaker, and then enjoy removing and replacing the standard tweeters. :(

Ill just do the backs then eh ;-) No one mentioned feeding any wires. I guessed the connector just popped off and you simply connected new speaker.

I remember my first car (actually a Morris Mariner van!) ...that had a radio. Jesus that was sh*t. And when I listen to what Ive got now compared to then it would have been considered as the muts nuts then. Im not so sure the sound is that bad. The very nice bloke at Halfords said I could try them out which i think Ill do then buy them at caraudiosecurity for £20 less!

I cant believe how much you can spend on a car stereo when half the time youve got road noise, engine noise, nagging wife noise etc. Am I missing out on something? As for watching TV in the car...you must be living at home with Mum and Dad and cant agree on what to watch.

hehe sorry.. well you could i spose just use the standard stuff... but then youd need to find the wire to connect to the cross overs etc!... also, make sure the speakers arent too deep as then youd need a saw to cut away at the door to get them to go in!!!!.. there are so many damn hurdles doin this, i thought the same as you but its a pain in the arse! :(

Hes just putting coaxials in so he doesnt need to feed any wires through for crossovers or tweeters.

My Infinities were too wide near the cone end to go in straight away, but the I took the mesh out of the grille and used the fitting ring in that to give me some extra height away from the door panel and then screwed the speaker in as tight as possible, probably bending the fitting ring a bit but the speaker just about went in ok then.

The original connector wont fit on your new speakers Tubster. You need to snip it off and put spade connectors on the wires as was mentioned earlier. You can pick up a few of each for a quid or two from Halfords, then a wire cutter/stripper and pair of pliers to put them on with.

Thanks for the info Floodie

Are there any speakers that I can just plug in without having to change/carve-up anything?
