Speeding LAWs

  Clio MK3 1.6 Dynamique

I just got home & Got flashed from a Camera... was going 37 on a 30.. so i am in the wrong i know... the %*$£ thing is.. I only been driving since September.. So.. Im thinking.. I will get my license taken off me.. cos of the PP(penalty points) ... or what?

Ever since i passed my test i was alittle worried about losing my license from 1 speeding fine.. However I thought about getting my sister insured.. and letting her get the PP & I shall pay the fine? But the thing with this situation is i got flashed from the front.. rather in the rear.. so would they be able to see me? I dont know how it would work... All im worried about is losing my license realy...

Can anyone shed some light on this situation...?

AFAIK (unless the laws been recently changed) youll only lose your license if you clock up 6 points in the first 3 years after passing. If youve no points already, youll be ok because you wont get 6 for 37 in a 30. If youve got 3 already, it may be bus pass time.

If its a gatso then u wont be prosecuted from the front. Its rear facing only. Ive known mates that drive towards gatsos above the speed limit and never get done.

So i think u mite be lucky!

Ive no points at the moment.. This is what i got from a website..

http://www.eastriding.gov.uk/az/face_faq3_proc?p_dyn_cat=1245&p_ar=APP141&p_sr=SPEC32U color=#0000ffWhat happens if I get caught speeding?/U

In most cases you will be sent a Fixed Penalty Notice (speeding ticket), which incurs a £60 fine and 3 points on your driving licence. You can accept the Conditional Offer, which means that the matter is settled outside of Magistrates Court. However, you may choose to have the matter heard before the Magistrates Court.

http://www.eastriding.gov.uk/az/face_faq3_proc?p_dyn_cat=1245&p_ar=APP141&p_sr=SPEC38U color=#0000ffHow many points can I have before I get banned ?/U

The maximum number of points is 12 - once this is reached you would normally be banned from driving. However, recently qualified drivers can be reverted back to learner status if they exceed 6 points. If however, you have been caught doing excessive speed or driving in a dangerous manner you can be given an outright ban at a Magistrates Court.

I dont know if this website is correct... but i sure hope it is... allthough I better be carefull now as if it is right... 1more speeding fine would mean me losing my license... & having to resit my test... I guess

Man this sucks!

The camera was on the other side of the road though... & there was me & a car behind me..(the only 2 cars on the road), and the camera flashed twice very quickly at us

Gatsos flash both ways which blind the driver as they drive towards the camera. This is why they cant charge you unless you are doing a silly speed i think. The truvelo i thought used infrared to get round this problem hence why it can take head-on pictures.

Gatsos cannot take photos of you head on as the flash is deemed a distraction.

AFAIK, they only flash when you go towards them when they are out of film - the cynic in me would guess that this is because drivers would get worried, phone the police, who would then know to go to change the film to enable more prosecutions...

If it was on the other side, i.e a normal gatso which would be facing you but on the right hand side, i doubt youll hear from them. If its set off its prob due to a dodgy trigger; never heard of anybody being done this way before.

I might as well buy one of them things that tells you when speed cameras are coming up... what are they called & anyone know where to get one?

http://forum.cliosport.net/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=5&TopicID=152648&PagePosition=2INFORAD is cheapest by far, but isnt a detector - it uses GPS to alert you to known locations of cameras. Detectors might be getting made illegal soon anyway AFAIK. Im thinking of buying one - only £80 plus £25/year subscription - just for piece of mind.

Truvelo cameras dont flash, do they? (because of the risk of blinding drivers, being forward facing). Mustve been a GATSO that flashed you from in front, so you should be OK going on whats being said here.

That is fraud BTW, which is a much bigger penalty than £60 and 3 points, that holds possible prison sentances etc if you are caught doing it.

That is why there are much more front facing cameras being used, to stop people doing this.

I know of quite a few people whose wifes have 9 points, lol.

And it will only be 3 points and £60, dont worry about it, most of us have at least 3, I got 5 in my first 2 years.

My mate got 8 (re-test etc), dont think I have any friends who drive regularly without any points.

Gatsos work by the two photos being taken whilst your car is passing over measuring markers/lines painted on the road. If you cross more lines than you should do at 30mph, you get done, pure and simple. Those lines tend to only be painted on the side of the road that the Gatso is on.

No matter how fast you were going in the other direction, if there are no lines painted on that side of the road...they have NO way of determining accurately, how fast you were going as they cant see how many lines you passed over (as there arent any) between the two photos.

Id say from what youve said that youll be OK.

Oh, and slow down..........youve been driving since September and (almost) got your first points already

What took you so long? ;) lol

If you add your sister to your policy and you are found to be speeding the dates between the crime and the insurance policy wont match will it?

Then you will be up tcreek without a paddle!

I reckon you are fine, Ive been flashed twice and I still have a full clean licence.
