Speeding up a slow old laptop?

I've got a faithful old Packard Bell laptop that I've owned for several years. It still works fine but it's getting rather slow, especially when playing videos or live streaming. I don't know jack about computers but I've been told it needs more RAM.

Is there any useful hits or tips to speed it up until I buy myself something newer/better?

Cheers.

If you've got the original disks reimaging will likely make a good bit of improvement if you haven't done recently . More ram would help if it hasn't got enough. Get on crucial.com to find out what you need.

I will have to remember to find some RAM out an stick in in for you, but upgrading to a macbook would be better ;)
