Speeding up XP

  E39 530i
Do any of you guys have any tips on how to speed up windows XP Pro. I have re-installed the complete operating system, ran Disk Defragmenter installed 512 of RAM, choosen to run for better performance under properties of my computer. Are there any other very useful tricks which I could use to speed up my windows xp pro???

Start > Run > msconfig

Then go to Startup and see if you can lose any of those.

Start > Run > services.msc

Then go through them and read the descriptions, can afford to lose quite a lot of them (right click, properties, stop, then disable)

There's only so much tweaking you can do. More memory and a faster processor are what's needed. Also if you haven't yet then install the correct graphics drivers, running on generic will see a performance hit.

Well you've been told increasing RAM will help but thats "not an option". Short of changing the CPU you are pretty much out of luck as XP isn't very configurable.

So as you arent prepared to change the hardware, I offered you a software alternative. So yes... it was helpful actually.

Linux isn't stupid, people are stupid.

Makes me laugh how people write off a complete series of operating systems simply because they don't know what they are doing. There are other ways of doing things than the one MS thrust at your face.

It wasn't helpful.........actually. Do you think I haven't thought about that. ITS NOT AN OPTION! (for me)

Linux will run like lightning off 512MB RAM, a million times faster than any windows based OS

Depends on what it's doing.. if you load it up with GNOME etc. then you might start struggling.. however, run Fluxbox or even no X at all, then it'll be rapid :)

Well then you need to be more specific with your original question... Such as:

Is there anyway to speed up XP without making any software or hardware changes ?

A specific question will give you the answer your looking for. A general question will give you answers you weren't. You didn't actually say what you were using the computer for so how could I possibly know that "ITS NOT AN OPTION" ???
