Speedo fault

Hi I have a 52 plate 1.2 clio dynamique and the speedo doesn't work at all! All the other dials work fine I've done a bit of reading up already and believe the speed sensor is a likely cause but where the hell is it I can't see any sign of a sensor on the gearbox the car does have abs but the abs light goes out once started meaning a healthy system? Has anyone got any ideas?

speedo sensor is located at the rear of the box near to the 'dogbone' mount, its a small cylindrical sensor that slots into the box and should have a wire/plug on it

Is it accessible from the top I really can't see anything on my box not even any wires going to the back of the box would my car definitely have 1?
