Speedo problem

I've got a problem with the speedo, it just stops working when traveling on the motorway or on the B roads, there is a slight drop in speed when it stops working and then a surge when it starts woking again, is this just a speedo sensor problem and where about is positioned? the car is a 172 Cup on a 2003 plate, standard car.

Back of the Gearbox were the diff is thats were your Speedo Sensor is,

It might be a lose connection in behind the dash though,

Probably a faulty sensor. Its quite a common problem and they are pretty reasonable from renault
